Boise's smallest official neighborhood
Fewer than 300 people live in the quaint community of West Downtown Boise, right next to the city's main urban hub. It’s the city’s smallest official neighborhood at only nine square blocks. However, the list of amenities it has easy access to is surprisingly extensive. “Some people would say it’s quieter, but you’re also closer to Main Street and Fairview Avenue,” says Realtor Elizabeth Campbell of Keller Williams Realty Boise, who’s sold in the city for a decade.

Drive-in dates and can't-miss croissants
West Downtown residents are mere blocks from exploring downtown Boise’s culinary, cultural and historical offerings. They’re even closer to several eateries, including the Westside Drive-In. This classic American eatery has remained frozen in time since it opened in 1957, just one block away. Neon signs glowing baby blue and bubblegum pink beckon pedestrians and drivers to pick up one of its signature cheeseburgers. “It’s very popular. People go there on date night,” Campbell says. Janjou Patisserie, a French café across the street from West Downtown, welcomes customers to enjoy delicate treats made from high-quality ingredients. “They’re so popular that they run out of pastry,” Campbell says. “They’re French, so they make everything by hand.” Janjou’s croissants are especially liable to sell out well before closing time. A few doors down, locals can quickly walk to Albertson’s for a grocery run.
The Westside Drive-In has been a popular Boise date spot since 1957.

Pocket parks and sub-highway skate ramps
Some outdoor recreation spots are also within easy walking distance of the neighborhood. Fairview Park covers nearly 2 acres a couple of blocks west. Casual visitors of all ages can enjoy its open field and playground while athletes compete on the basketball and tennis courts. The latter are also taped for pickleball. A few blocks south, Rhodes Skate Park features a network of ramps, rails and quarter-pipes weaving between the concrete pillars bolstering Route 26. Locals are also less than 1 mile from the Boise River Greenbelt, a 25-mile trail running through town.

From prewar houses to brand-new condos
Many West Downtown homes were built in the years leading up to World War II. Tudor Revival, Craftsman and Cape Cod-style homes fill its tree-covered, sidewalk-lined blocks, averaging just under 1,600 square feet. New construction is rare in the neighborhood, with The Travis being the most notable exception. Built in 2023, this luxury building offers one- to three-bedroom condominiums from the low $600,000s to about $1.3 million. Single-family homes in the neighborhood start in the low $400,000s for two bedrooms and can top $1 million for five bedrooms.
