A small town by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Squeezed between the eastern border of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Ohio Route 8, Boston Heights is a community full of rural charm, natural beauty and simple commutes to Akron in the south and Cleveland in the north. "We like to think of ourselves as the gateway to the national park," says Ron Antal, Mayor and 14-year resident of Boston Heights Village. This relationship with Ohio's only national park gives the village a spacious and tranquil environment. A resident can homestead on a multi-acre plot or live in a large and luxurious estate. While the village may lack amenities such as a varied pallet of local stores and restaurants, the small-town atmosphere makes it a desirable home for many.

Brandywine Falls is 60 feet
The thick forests of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park cover over 33,000 acres of wild habitats and historical landmarks, such as the remnants of the Ohio Canal. "I'll tell you, this park is a gift." Says Pamela Barnes, community engagement supervisor for the park. Nearby visitor's areas include Brandywine Falls to the north of the village—famed for its 60-foot waterfall—the East Rim Bike Trail to the east and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio's Camp Ledgewood on Akron Peninsula Road. In the winter, residents can shred the snow at the Boston Mills Ski Resort, less than a 3-mile drive into the park. For outdoor fun away from the national park, many go to Matthews-Thomas Park on Olde 8 Road. The greenspace offers playgrounds, a baseball field, tree shade and a pond.

Ohio Routes 303 and 8 surround Boston Heights' south and east sides as the free highways. Interstate 80, or the Ohio Turnpike, cuts through the middle of town and has a ramp accessible via East Boston Mills Road. The Akron METRO Bus system offers a park-and-ride station along Chittenden Road, where Bus 32 stops on its way to Cleveland in the north or Akron in the south. When not parking to ride, locals take Olde 8 Road to get around the village, connecting to most of the residential streets as well as the highways.

Veg+ has vegan food
Boston Heights has a short list of local stores and restaurants. Valley Bike Rental is a village staple, renting bikes to locals and park tourists. After working up an appetite from biking, people sometimes stop at Veg+ along the Hike and Bike Trail. The pescetarian restaurant serves such public favorites as Tofu Wings and Vegan Pretzels. The Costco Wholesale on Bass Pro Drive is the nearest grocery store, but some drive 4 miles to the Acme Fresh Market in Hudson. Wednesday through Sunday, some residents like to shop for locally sourced goods at Purple Brown Farm Market in Peninsula, 5 miles into the valley. Summit Mall is the closest indoor shopping center, with a 16-mile drive southwest to Fairlawn.

The Annual Fall Fest is bushels of fun
The village's small-town nature shines brightest in its yearly events. One of the largest celebrations is the Annual Fall Festival. "There are hayrides, a log sawing competition—activities that are very old-time America," says Mayor Antal. Attendees can enjoy caramel apples and get their faces painted while enjoying the festivities.
The Boston Heights neighborhood is located near Route 8 and the Ohio Turnpike.
Potential flooding and noise by the highway.
In heavy rain, the creeks and rivers branching off from the valley can sometimes flood the surrounding homes and roadways with more than 3 feet of water. Potential buyers should also consider that the 3 highways surrounding Boston Heights can generate considerable noise pollution. This noise may affect nearby households.
