Find a desirable suburbia in Boston
Nestled within Hyde Park, Boston’s southernmost neighborhood, Readville is an area filled with homes that can be obtained at relatively accessible price points. “The area has more of a residential setting compared to downtown Boston,” says Mary Ellen McDonough, a Realtor with Donahue Real Estate Co., who has been selling homes for over two decades. Readville is also a community that is seeing its share of commercial investment, while also just being 13 miles away from downtown Boston. “It’s a highly sought location,” says Brian Clinton, a Realtor for Donahue Real Estate Co., who is also a lifelong Boston resident. Many people utilize the commuter rail system to get to work in downtown Boston, to major employers such as the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University and the Amazon Prime Warehouse.
A mix of home styles in Readville
Most of the homes that fill those properties were built after 1950, according to Clinton. “It’s a bedroom community, meaning there are lots of single-family homes,” says Clinton. “Readville is a well-established, generational type of neighborhood.” Colonials and Cape Cods are found around the community, ranging from $450,000 to $850,000 with modest porches and backyards. In addition, traditional homes range from $800,000 to $1 million with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Readville also contains newer townhomes and condominiums as well, which typically sell in the $900,000 range.

Dedham Public Schools serves students in the area, with an A-minus from Niche. Children may attend Greenlodge Elementary School, which has a B-plus. Kids can advance to B-rated Dedham Middle, before advancing to Dedham High, which has an A-minus. Both schools offer students summer reading programs. Northeastern University - Dedham Campus is central to the neighborhood.
Organized activities at Bosse Sports
Iacono Playground features green spaces for baseball and tennis, plus a tot spray that is open during the summer months. Bosse Sports is an expansive athletics facility in One Westinghouse Plaza that includes a basketball court, turf field and pickleball courts. Wollaston Beach is the go-to outdoor destination in the warmer months, where people can ride their boats and relax in the sun. Residents can find a challenge at Rock Spot Climbing: Boston-Dedham. Golfers head to the George Wright golf course, which is 3 miles away, to practice their swing and technique.
Commuting in the car or train
Massachusetts Route 138 is used to get around the community. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter rail station offers access near Downtown Boston, which is a commute of 14 miles. The Boston Logan International Airport is 15 miles away.
Authentic eateries in Massachusetts
Roundhead Brewing Company, the first Latino-owned brewery in Massachusetts, is a popular destination for coffee and pastries. Tutto Italiano is a specialty store serving sandwiches, pasta and salads. The store also carries imported Italian products for purchase such as coffee and meats. “It feels like an authentic Italian market,” Clinton says. Shaw's is the go-to grocer, located just outside of the neighborhood, while Walgreens is the popular pharmacy in the area.
Catch a movie on Elm Street
Locals can catch some entertainment at Showcase Cinema on Elm Street or go skating with friends at Chez Vous Roller Skating Rink, which is 5 miles away. People visit downtown Boston for a walkable area with many eclectic shopping areas such as the Stores At 500 Washington and The Corner Mall.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
