The Hollow may be Bridgeport’s smallest neighborhood – covering just .42 square miles – but the community is also the most densely populated in the city. Home to over 9,000 residents, the area was declared a Neighborhood Revitalization Zone in 2004 and remains one today. “This area is undergoing a great deal of revitalization,” says Mike Sirochman, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty who has been selling homes for over 20 years. “Renewal projects have brought highway construction and more multifamily units to the neighborhood, so there are a lot of investment opportunities here.” Located just north of Downtown Bridgeport and Interstate 95, The Hollow is looking to the future with renovated multifamily homes, updated park facilities and several active community spaces.

Multifamily homes and a distinguished historic district
As Bridgeport’s most densely populated neighborhood, The Hollow is packed with multifamily homes. Most homes were built around the early 20th century, with some renovated and some needing renovations. “There are a lot of investment opportunities here,” Sirochman says. “It’s a good time to pick up one of the fixer-uppers or short sales in the neighborhood.” Multifamily homes feature six to nine bedrooms, with prices ranging from about $300,000 to $525,000, depending on the condition of the home. Garages are rare, and residents frequently park along both sides of the narrow streets. The Hollow is also home to the Sterling Hill Historic District, a two-block enclave of urban residential properties dating all the way back to 1821. The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and many homes feature elements of Federal and Gothic Revival design.
