Woodworth is rural and spacious but not secluded or isolated
Woodworth is known for its quiet, spacious lots and various housing styles, each a short drive from outdoor recreation and nearby cities. Rural and agricultural at its roots, Woodworth is slowly growing with developments as more homebuyers want what the area has to offer. Between the forests, farms and fields, most homes have at least 2-acre yards – much larger than those in nearby Kenosha, Wisconsin's fourth-most populated city. "One thing people like is that they're far enough from the cities to have a decent amount of space, but close enough to the cities that they're not inconvenient to get to," says Justin Meuller, a Realtor with Re/Max Premier Properties, who has been selling in the area for over 20 years.
An array of housing styles with a wide range in value
Farmhouses, Cape Cods and cottages along county roads are the oldest homes in Woodworth. Ranch-style and split-level homes from the middle of the 20th-century line small developments, while new traditional and modern Craftsman homes are the newest in the area. Houses rarely go on the market but range in value from $190,000 to $2 million. The average home value in Woodworth is around $705,000, nearly $150,000 more than the national average. Despite their higher price point, "We see a fair amount of people moving up from Illinois because the taxes in Wisconsin are significantly lower," Mueller says. "So, some people move here and commute across the border into Illinois every day."
Recreation, leisure and adventure around the nearby forests and lakes
Bristol Woods Park spans 200 acres and has a playground made of natural elements, a nature center and over 4 miles of hiking trails through fields and dense forest. Prairie Springs Park, which surrounds Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie, is 2 miles past Interstate 94. The outdoor destination has baseball diamonds, playgrounds, a sandy beach area, volleyball courts and pavilions. While no motorized boats are allowed on the lake, windsurfing, paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking are. Golfers play at Bristol Oaks Golf Club, and daring kids and teens zip through the air at Boundless Adventures. The zipline and aerial park is open seasonally, with ladders, obstacles and ziplines among the trees in Bristol Woods Park. America's Action Territory is in the neighborhood, offering go-karts, bumper boats and miniature golf.
Interstate 94 and Wisconsin Highway 50 keep Woodworth connected
Wisconsin Highway 50, or State Trunk Highway 50, is Kenosha County's main east-west road. Interstate 94 is a main thoroughfare of Eastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois, along Woodworth's eastern border. "Once you get west of Interstate 94, all the little towns are small in size and population," Mueller says. "It's very rural and spread out in that half of Kenosha County." Downtown Milwaukee is 35 miles north, while Chicago is 60 miles south. Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is right off Interstate 94, 30 miles north. Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital is 2 miles past Interstate 94. While there are no bus stops in the neighborhood, a few are just beyond its northeastern corner.
Moving to rural communities for their school districts
Kenosha County is divided into 10 different elementary school districts, and students living in Woodworth attend Bristol School District's standalone school for kindergarten through eighth grade. "I found that a lot of times, people are coming to these more rural communities for the school districts," Mueller says. Bristol School is rated B-plus on Niche and feeds into Westosha Central High School, also rated B-plus.
Shopping centers are outside the neighborhood in Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie
Shopping in Woodworth is limited, but just beyond the neighborhood's northeastern corner is a large shopping plaza with fast-food chains, home stores and Woodman's Food Market. The intersection, where Interstate 94 and Wisconsin Highway 50 meet, has hotels, auto dealerships and medical specialist offices. Birchwood Grill is a locally owned, American cuisine restaurant in Woodworth that offers buffet-style meals for holidays and Friday fish fries. More department stores and big-box retailers are east on Highway 50.
