Brookhaven Village’s location makes it convenient for all ages
Brookhaven Village has something for everyone, from parks and restaurants to highly rated schools. It’s also tucked halfway between two major thoroughfares that travel to the northern suburbs and downtown Atlanta. Other benefits, stemming from Brookhaven’s incorporation as a city in 2012, include the nearby fire station and public works services. “There’s pros and cons to how much the government is involved, but what they’ve done is really made an attractive area to live in,” says local Realtor of 10 years Juli St George with Keller Williams Intown. “They really have looked at their whole population and tried to implement things that are attractive to folks of any age and income.”

Varying home styles in Brookhaven Village
Brookhaven Village has a mixture of new and established dwellings built over six decades. Since the city encourages new construction and renovation, St George says the “permitting process is fairly straightforward,” but “you’re not allowed to just go and cut down trees.” That makes for green views from furniture common on the neighborhood’s patios and balconies. Homes constructed between the 1960s and ‘90s sell for $440,000 to $980,000 and range in style from bungalows to Colonial Revivals. Three-floor 21st-century Craftsman and traditional houses cost $1 million to $1.6 million. Many newer builds come with two-car garages and basements on the ground level, while staircases lead to main second-floor entrances. Dwellings are situated on fifth-acre lots along streets lined with granite curbs that St George says city workers repair when needed. Townhouses sell for $500,000 to $900,000. Brookhaven Village’s CAP Crime Index Score is 3 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Magnet programs at the A-minus-rated Chamblee Middle School and the A-rated Chamblee High School challenge students with a fast-paced, rigorous curriculum. Georgia’s school choice rules allow students to attend schools outside of those for which they are zoned.

Dog days at Murphy Candler Park and Brookhaven Park
Blackburn Park, 3 miles away, has tennis courts, baseball fields and a community garden that yielded enough in one year to donate 340 pounds of produce to food pantries. The park’s trail winds along Nancy Creek below Paw Paws and Redbuds and connects with Murphy Candler Park, where there are fields for youth leagues and a stocked fishing lake. Dogs are invited to cool off from the summer sun in the park’s public swimming pool once a year on Doggy Dip Day. They are also welcome at Brookhaven Park, less than a mile away, where there’s a dog park and barbecue area. St George says another benefit of residing within Brookhaven city limits is that money is frequently invested in updating parks.
