A growing neighborhood surrounded by culture
Not long ago, Clinton Hill was considered an extension of Bedford-Stuyvesant—Bed-Stuy to locals. “Today, it’s the sister neighborhood to Fort Greene,” says Elizabeth Stile, broker of record at Stile Real Estate and Clinton Hill resident since 1984. Still, the neighborhood has an identity of its own. A wide variety of well-maintained homes has made the area a poster child of New York City’s prewar architecture. Beloved craft eateries and chill bars dot tree-lined blocks, while Pratt Institute’s students bring a creative, youthful energy to the neighborhood. Two of Brooklyn’s most popular parks, Prospect Park and Fort Greene Park, are within walking distance, as are cultural institutions like the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Barclays Center.

Diverse architecture and limited new development
It’s not uncommon to see Italianate brownstones, Greek Revival rowhouses and converted carriage houses along the same street. Preserved, single-family mansions dating back to the 1800s come in a variety of styles with Victorian, Renaissance, Romanesque and Beaux-Arts facades. Grandiose, Gothic Revival churches anchor the area. New condominiums sit along the edges, as Clinton Hill’s historic district prevents new development at the center. Homebuyers see the neighborhood as a place they can grow. “Young people have started to move here and as they get older, they marry and start families, but they choose to stay,” Stile says. “Prices have risen lately, but there’s a good selection on the market.” A multifamily townhouse with parquet floors and original fireplaces ranges from $1.5 million to $3.5 million and large condos and co-ops can sell for as high as $1.8 million. Renovated one-bedroom condos start at $600,000 and older one-bedroom co-ops start at $400,000.

A vibrant culinary scene, from breakfast to night caps
Clinton Hill’s restaurants reflect the sort of laid-back excellence typical of the neighborhood. "If you go out on a Wednesday or Thursday night, it’s bustling, especially when people are dining outside in the warmer months.” Stile says. New Yorkers rave about Emily Pizza, which started in Clinton Hill. Aita serves elegant Italian dishes in a cozy atmosphere, while Olea Mediterranean Taverna has a popular happy hour. Locals frequent Peck’s for their breakfast sandwiches and Mekelberg’s, a small market serving gourmet bar food in the back. The Good Batch is known for their cookies, and a line forms outside Otway Bakery daily for coffee and pastries. The nightlife scene is small but strong, with stylish jaunts like Baby Jane, Hops Hill and Mayflower. Two Key Food supermarkets flank the neighborhood.

Shaded streets with major parks nearby
Though the area is known for its oak- and maple-lined streets, residents venture just outside its borders for wide open spaces. Fort Greene Park has tennis courts and a weekly artisan’s bazaar and greenmarket, plus holiday events throughout the year. On the other side of the neighborhood, Prospect Park offers 528 acres of nature with lakes, wooded trails and bike paths. The nearby Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a landscaped oasis. “Also, the campus at Pratt Institute has a lovely outdoor sculpture garden that’s open to the public,” Stile says.

Great neighborhood with various options for eating and nightlife. Gentrification is real in this neighborhood, especially because of the Barclay's Center but it has some roots of culture left.

It's a wonderful neighborhood, and it's being gentrified quickly. Some people can no longer afford it.

I love all the new restaurants. There is a place called Belli's. It is Argentianian Italian and it is wonderful. There are other new and old places which lend the neighborhood a cozy air. There is a barber on the corner who cuts all kinds of hair and Adam Sandler the actor went there once. Every summer they have a Thank you barbeque for their customers.
