Midcentury homes get a modern twist in Hartkopf
Central to Brooklyn Park, Hartkopf is a suburb appreciated by locals for its lower-than-average housing prices and convenience to shopping and public parks. Filled with midcentury-inspired homes largely built in the 1970s, renovations are a regular thing in the area. “They look midcentury on the outside, but they’re pretty modernized on the inside,” says Chris Yarbro, an associate with Re/Max Advantage Plus. “Plus there are still a lot of good deals for people to put their own spin on.”
Condos, split-levels and ranch-style homes in the suburbs
With its fenced-in backyards, well-kept lawns and midcentury-inspired housing, Hartkopf attempts an atmosphere of classic suburbia. Both attached and detached garages are a common feature, cutting down on street parking. Homes frequently have basements along with wood and brick exteriors. One—and two-bedroom condos are also popular, generally running between the mid-$40,000s and the high $70,000s. Split-level and ranch-style houses range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$300,000s. The average value of a home in Hartkopf is in the high $200,000s—half of the national average.
International classes and extracurriculars at Osseo Senior High School
Students will begin at Park Brook Elementary School, which is in the center of the neighborhood, before attending North View Middle School. Niche ranks both of these schools at a C-plus. Osseo Senior High School has a B from Niche, which places it in Minnesota’s top 10 most diverse public high schools. The school celebrates this diversity by participating in programs like the Career Equity Project, encouraging students of color to learn more about potential careers in oral healthcare.
Casual golfing at Brookland Golf Park and renovated play areas at Hartkopf Park
Centrally located, Hartkopf Park is a neighborhood hub featuring 24 acres of playgrounds, tennis courts and trails that show off the local foliage. Renovated in 2022, the park now features new basketball courts, a nature-themed play area and a field for soccer or football. Just south is Lakeland Park, which includes a lighted trail through the surrounding foliage and athletic courts for tennis, basketball and cricket. Brookland Golf Park is a public 9-hole, 30-par course with a series of relaxed rules of play, including “No collar, no pants, no cleats? No problem.”
Angelea's and Reyes have cultural comfort food options
A considerable amount of shopping, restaurants and services are available around Hartkopf’s Starlite Center, including Target, Planet Fitness and a handful of banks. Angelea’s Soul Food Kitchen has served no-fuss classics like smothered chicken, catfish and collard greens since opening in 2020. Reyes Restaurant Bar and Breakfast offers a fusion of Mexican, Italian and Central American flavors with a colorful atmosphere for every meal of the day. Grocery stores like Aldi are available just outside of the community.
Family activities are abundant at River Park Fest and Tater Daze
Held every summer, River Park Fest encourages families to learn about and participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, cycling and nature journaling. Observed since 1965, Tater Daze celebrates the city’s history of farming and agriculture. The festivities include live performances and food vendors, culminating in the Tater Daze Parade.
There are Metro Transit bus stops on West Broadway and Brooklyn Boulevard
The nearest major highway is Interstate 94, along the community’s southern border. Minneapolis is 13 miles southeast, while St. Paul is 24 miles southeast. The Metro Transit bus system has stops throughout the neighborhood, frequently on West Broadway and Brooklyn Boulevard.
