Suburban Neighborhood in Broomfield, Colorado
Broomfield County 80020
In Lac Amora, one might think they’re back on the 19th-century frontier alongside the first intrepid souls who ventured west. The Colorado neighborhood offers a vast expanse to the north and westward views of the Rocky Mountains.
Seated within the Broomfield area, homes in Lac Amora are typically constructed in the ranch style, but the architecture of the area also includes contemporary and colonial styles. These come in the form of split-levels and bi-levels, some with stone or wood detailing. Though the yards for these homes are relatively small, many were built with garages, and residences along the northern and western borders have the benefit of breathtaking views outside their windows. Houses here typically sell for between $400,000 and $700,000, with a few priced higher but many on in the midst of that range, and almost all were built in the 1970s.
Students can attend Aspen Creek K-8 School, which scores an A- on Niche and hosts multiple student talent shows, socials and more throughout the year. They then move on to Broomfield High School, which is also rated at an A- with Niche, and is ranked in the top 50 best public high schools in the entire state.
Zang Spur Park is a hotspot for anyone looking to get outdoors and offers a wide range of activities at Lac Amora’s southeastern edge. Attendees can clamber up the playground’s climbing wall and come back down to earth via the slide, while competitors can play pickup games of baseball, basketball, tennis or beach volleyball on its fields and courts. The park also features the Broomfield Depot Museum, a relic from more than a century before that served as housing for railroad crews.
Lac Amora Park’s playground and baseball diamond also draw those venturing outdoors, while Josh’s Pond is at the western edge of the Lac Amora neighborhood and offers a vista of the Rocky Mountains’ Front Range. Several homes sit alongside the pond, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to encounter some wildlife atop the hill it’s on. The pond is also connected to several other bodies of water in the area by the Lake Link Trail, which stretches for nearly 10 miles. “Lake Link Trail is a link to lots of other trails, mostly heading west towards Boulder,” says Donna Voss, a real estate associate with RE/MAX in the Boulder area for nearly 30 years. “They have fantastic views, and Zang Spur and Lac Amora Parks both have playgrounds, picnic tables and lots of green space to run, play and relax under a tree.” To the north, across an open expanse of land, is the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Park, which boasts several trails and an emphasis on protecting wildlife and agriculture in the area.
In town, start the day off with breakfast at First Watch, grab lunch there later or split the difference and enjoy brunch from their expansive menu. Supplement breakfast with one – or more – of nearly three dozen types of regular or cake donuts from 5280 Donuts, just a few minutes’ walk from First Watch, or enjoy a retro-themed dining experience at Great Scott’s Eatery. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant has beer fans covered alongside an expansive menu. For groceries, look no further than the King Soopers in Broomfield – and stop in for some Starbucks while you’re in the store.
Lac Amora also marks a midpoint between Boulder and Denver, connected to two of eastern Colorado’s most bustling metropolitan areas. Route 287 runs along the eastern border of Lac Amora and links Denver and Wyoming to the north, while residents can hop on Highway 36 to the south and quickly reach Denver or Boulder.
Above it all, the Rockies rise in the distance, keeping watch over Lac Amora. “The view to the west of Lac Amora is one of the best in the county,” Voss says, “with gorgeous foothills and Front Range views. There’s not many better places to view the Flatirons, Longs Peak and – on a clear day – Pikes Peak.”
