Suburban Neighborhood in Broomfield, Colorado
Broomfield County 80020
Roughly halfway between Boulder and Denver, the residential enclave of Ridgeview Heights is perched in Bromfield’s highlands. Ridgeview Heights is split into two residential areas. The east side is occupied by Gate-N-Green, a 55-plus community that sprouted in the 1970s. The gated community has an “exclusive” feel, but many homebuyers enjoy the privacy, says Frank Duran, team leader at RE/MAX Alliance. Duran has worked home deals across the Denver metro for nearly 30 years. In Gate-N-Green, a home comes with exterior maintenance service that picks up trash and clears snow in the winter, Duran says. “That’s going to be a heck of a lot better where you have to maintain your yard yourself.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the neighborhood is mostly made up of contemporary houses built in the ‘90s that incorporate Craftsman and colonial features. Walk the sidewalks over the neighborhood’s sloping terrain, and you’ll see solar panels attached to the roofs of many of these hilltop homes. You may find a two-bedroom house for sale in the low $500,000s, but homes with three or four bedrooms are likely to cost between $600,000 and $850,000. The Ridgeview Heights housing market features less than a month of inventory, so expect limited options and steep competition.
Students who attend public schools will find themselves in the school system that Niche ranks the second best in the state: the Boulder Valley School District. Those students start at Kohl Elementary School a mile outside Ridgeview Heights, which earns a Niche grade of A. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders can walk to classes at Broomfield Heights Middle School in the neighborhood. The A-minus-rated middle school allows students to study more than the core subjects, thanks to courses such as Three Dimensional Design and Middle School Robotics. Teens have to leave Ridgeview Heights to attend Broomfield High School, but the A-minus school is less than a mile from the neighborhood.
You won’t have to leave Ridgeview Heights to get active. The neighborhood’s Miramonte Park is split by Daphne Street; go to the west side to access swings and slides or shoot some hoops. Select the east side of the park to walk a paved path over a bridge and rolling grass. Of course, a pedestrian crosswalk ensures parkgoers can easily enjoy both sides. Miramonte Park sits on Ridgeview Heights’ sound end, but residents of the north side are closer to Hemlock Park Playground, a jungle gym perched on a hill summit. Those who live in Gate-N-Green also have access to a pool, spa and fitness center, Duran adds.
Ridgeview Heights contains nothing but homes, parks and a school. However, you only need to cross Miramonte Boulevard to leave the neighborhood and pull into King Soopers to pick up groceries for the night’s meal. The community’s wide sidewalks make it possible to walk to the supermarket, but keep in mind the hilly landscape may turn your return trip into an uncomfortable haul. King Soopers is part of a commercial cluster where Ridgeview Heights residents can also stop to get new tires, gas up or grab a bowl of drunken noodles from Mountain Thai Kitchen. What started as a food truck is now a full-service restaurant that 5280 Magazine named one of the 15 best Thai spots in Denver.
Down the street from Mountain Thai Kitchen, learn more about the region’s history at the free Broomfield Depot Museum. The Broomfield Depot Museum is housed inside a defunct railroad depot, but trains still run through town at US36/Broomfield Station 3 miles south of Ridgeview Heights. Step on, and ride to downtown Denver or downtown Boulder, each reachable in less than 40 minutes.
