Skyestone’s adult community with an active lifestyle
Surrounded by rolling hills and open spaces to the west, Skyestone is an established community for those 55 and older, about 5 miles from central Broomfield. The neighborhood is as active as it is peaceful, with multiple amenities such as walking trails, a park and a recreation center. “This isn’t a golf club community like other 55 and up areas, it’s smaller and the dues are less,” says Realtor Sue Armstrong with Red Head Luxury Properties, who has about 5 years of experience and lives in the neighborhood. “We have a close community, beautiful homes to live in and endless fun things to do.”
Single-story homes built in the 2010s
Homes in Skyestone are lined along winding residential streets with sidewalks dotted with lampposts and decorative trees. Front lawns are small, and driveways pull into attached garages. Patio homes and contemporary single-story homes built in the 2010s are the common housing types. “Having one level is good for the knees,” Armstrong says. Many of these share Craftsman features such as front door entryways, stone accents and flat roofs. There are also a handful of properties sporting a New Traditional design, with pointed roofs, simple exteriors and dark trim. Prices range from $625,000 to $1.3 million, depending on property size.
Roughly half of the neighborhood’s residents own their property, while others rent. The CAP Index crime score for Skyestone is 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.
Skyestone’s outdoor recreation and nearby open spaces
Skyestone Park is one of the many amenities in Skyestone lending to an active community. “There are beautiful common areas that are landscaped and maintained,” Armstrong says. The pocket park also has a playground with swings for visiting grandkids, and pathways that connect to the area’s larger system of trails. The Lodge is the community’s recreation center, outfitted with a full-sized kitchen, movement room, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and courts for pickleball and bocce ball. The Lodge will also host weekly programs and over 30 clubs for residents to join, including clubs for hiking, e-biking and golfing.
Roughly 2 miles east of the neighborhood is Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, which doubles as an 18-hole golf course and a nature sanctuary for wildlife species. The Westminster Hills Open Space is directly south of Skyestone and has miles of hiking and biking trails cutting through the rolling prairie lands. Even farther south is the Standley Lake Regional Park & Wildlife Refuge. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing are all allowed on Standley Lake, though swimming is not. There are also multiple campgrounds and hiking trails.
Celebrating the community through events
In addition to its active amenities, Skyestone has an event committee that hosts six to 10 social activities throughout the year. “It’s not always the same. One year they might have something for Oktoberfest, and the next year they do St. Patrick’s Day,” Armstrong says. “We do have quite a few potlucks, though, which is self-funded since people bring their own dish.” Live at the Lodge is a small concert series that brings in local bands to perform for the community.
Flatiron Crossing and Broomfield’s retail and restaurants
While the neighborhood itself is primarily residential, opportunities for shopping and dining are close by. The Flatiron Crossing shopping mall is about 4 miles north with department stores like Macy’s and national brands like Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Across the street, Main Street at Flatiron is a commercial center with a Walmart Supercenter and additional small businesses. Azafran Indian Cuisine is a local restaurant in the area, and Benihana is a Hibachi-style chain. Fast-food options include Chick-fil-A and Five Guys.
Central Broomfield is about 5 miles northeast with additional commerce. Papa Frank’s is a casual Italian restaurant in the Nickel Center shopping area. There’s also At Home and Trek Bicycle nearby.
Traveling in and out of Skyestone
Paved walking trails wind throughout Skyestone, encouraging recreational strolls. Benches and picnic tables are scattered along the pathways. When it comes to traveling outside the community, a vehicle is required. Access to Colorado state Route 121, known as Wadsworth Parkway, is about 2 miles east and can be used to head into downtown Denver, about 18 miles southeast. There’s also Colorado state Route 128, which runs north of the neighborhood. The Denver International Airport is roughly 36 miles away.
