Browns Point blends beautiful views, bountiful outdoor recreation and urban amenities in a blissful community. This Northeast Tacoma neighborhood offers ultimate tranquility with sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound, with small-town charm. “It’s a lovely suburb of Tacoma, and it’s very quiet and relaxed,” says Kari Rae Davis, Real Estate Broker for Keller Williams. “The views really are spectacular, so if you want a place that feels secluded from the city but has access to what the city has to offer, you get a nice mix here.”
Sitting on a peninsula, you have pristine water views in all directions, with Vashon Island to the West and Commencement Bay to the South. Browns Point is filled with rambler-style houses, Cape Cods, Mid-Century Modern split-levels and stately waterfront homes. “That’s the gem of it, it’s not just one cookie-cutter kind,” says Davis. “It’s a nice mix of architectural styles, and it’s affordable compared to Seattle.” Most homes were built in the 1960s and range from $620,000 to $950,000. However, waterfront homes go for up to $2 million and come with meticulously landscaped terraced lots, pools and oversized rooftop decks to watch ships passing by on the sparkling water. Most homes have multi-car garages, fenced-in yards and lot sizes that average around 11,000 square feet. Higher-end homes boast up to 27,000 square-foot lots with sports courts and hot tubs – prime for entertaining. “The homes by the water are pretty palatial and have dock access,” says Davis. While Brown’s Point is known for its natural beauty, with majestic water and mountain views and abundant marine wildlife calling it home, it’s just minutes from schools, restaurants and shopping.
Students attend Browns Point Elementary, Meeker Middle School and Stadium High School. Browns Point received an overall B-plus from Niche and offers “Beyond the Bell,” an after-school program to engage students in field trips, sports and activities. Stadium High received an overall A-minus from Niche and is the No. 5 best high school in Pierce County. It also offers an Indigenous People’s Club and gaming club.
The neighborhood is a boater’s and water lover’s paradise, but the jewel of the neighborhood is, without a doubt, Browns Point Lighthouse Park. Sitting at the tip of Browns Point, at this four-acre park, you can pack a picnic as you admire the water, tour the storied lightkeeper’s cottage or stay the weekend. Or head to Browns Point Playfield to play catch, work on your tennis game or let the kids play. Browns Point Athletic Complex provides the community and elementary school students baseball and soccer fields. Or you can practice your swing at North Shore Public Golf Course.
Browns Point Town Center offers everything you need for shopping, dining and entertainment. Get your sushi fix or bento box from Brown’s Point Teriyaki & Sushi. Grab a pint at North 47 Brewing Co., peruse vintage home goods at Vintage Mod Abode and grab your basics at Lighthouse Market. Siete is another local gem, offering diverse small plates, brunch and cocktails. Davis recommends Cliff House, an upscale seafood and pasta eatery with amazing views. “It’s one of the best views in Tacoma because you’re looking east toward Mount Rainier and downtown Tacoma,” she says. “Unless you go over there, you don’t realize it’s there.”
The neighborhood is very community-oriented, with the Browns Point Improvement Club hosting a variety of events, including Easter egg hunts, summer movie nights, fishing derbies and the Browns Point Salmon Bake Festival, which is the biggest and most well-known. At the Center at Norpoint, a community and recreational space, you can rappel down a climbing wall, swim laps or get in a workout in one of their many fitness classes.
A whimsical waterfront community, wondrous views and a wealth of outdoor recreation await in Browns Point.
