Tucked away in southern Bryan, about 4 miles from downtown, Wheeler Ridge is a quiet suburb at the crossroads of Aggieland's best amenities. "It's a well-established neighborhood, and it benefits from all of the businesses coming to that area on Boonville Road," says Greg Schwartz, a real estate agent with Schwartz Realty Group. The neighborhood is just 5 miles from Texas A&M University, and a convenient location near Texas Avenue, a main thoroughfare in the Bryan/College Station area gives residents an easy way around the sister cities. Wheeler Ridge was established in the early 1980s, when traditional brick homes and spacious lots were the norm, giving the neighborhood a classic feel with modern plenty of space.

Classic brick traditional homes

Many of the homes throughout Wheeler Ridge were built in the early 80s, with traditional brick architecture being the dominant housing style. House prices in the neighborhood are consistent with prices in some neighboring communities, typically between $250,000 and $350,000, and some rental properties are also available. Homes are often on spacious lots and come with driveways that can fit multiple cars. Three-bedroom homes can range between 1,110 and 1,600 square feet, whereas some four-bedrooms can stretch to 2,220 square feet.

Highly rated Bryan ISD schools

In the Bryan Independent School District, many programs such as art, dance and music start as early as elementary school. Wheeler Ridge kids begin at Bowen Elementary School, which received a B grade from Niche, followed by B-rated Sam Rayburn Intermediate School until sixth grade and B-minus-rated Stephen F. Austin Middle School until eighth grade. Bryan High School received a B grade from Niche and offers 28 career and technical education courses, including industrial engineering and construction.

Get around Aggieland using the Earl Rudder Freeway

Wheeler Ridge is right along Boonville Road, which leads to the Earl Rudder Freeway. "If you get on Boonville, you're a straight shot to downtown," Schwartz says. All of downtown Bryan's restaurants and local shops are just 4 miles away. Residents are 5 miles from the Texas A&M campus, where they can catch a football game at Kyle Field or a basketball game at Reed Arena. The community's location in the Bryan/College Station crossroads means other amenities like Easterwood Airport are just 7 miles away, and St. Joseph Health Hospital is less than 4 miles out.

Bar grub at Tilted Pint and nearby retail shopping

A trip downtown isn't always necessary to grab a pint with friends, as there are several options along Boonville Road. Local watering hole Tilted Pint serves bar grub and a selection of brews and cocktails. Locals flock to the bar's outdoor patio when the weather's nice. Cotton Patch Cafe, in the Colony Park shopping center 2 miles down the road, is a local chain serving southern favorites.
