Suburban Neighborhood in Burtonsville, Maryland
Montgomery County 20866, 20904, 20905
There’s no lack of choice in Fairland when it’s time to decide where to go, what to eat or how to have fun. This densely populated suburb of DC offers multiple options to fit your lifestyle and needs in almost every area: housing style, education, transportation, restaurants, shopping and recreation. Off the busy main thoroughfare of Briggs Chaney Road, head northeast toward Fairland Recreation Park and you’ll drive suburban roads shaded by leafy trees that lead into apartment, town house and housing developments.
Homebuyers see a fair share of town house complexes in Fairland among many choices of classic single-family homes, such as Colonials and Federals. The average price for a town house rests between $340,000 and $430,000. Generous five-bedroom homes run between $600,000 and $800,000 and often feature front porches and garages.
Children in the area attend one of several elementary schools in the Montgomery County Public School system, all of which feature diverse student bodies. Fairland Elementary and Greencastle Elementary each receive a B rating from Niche, and Burnt Mills Elementary offers a Spanish Language Immersion Program for its students. Students at Benjamin Banneker Middle School participate in service-learning opportunities, fulfilling a requirement for graduation. They finish their academic career at Paint Brush High School, which boasts a signature modern media technology program and a state-of-the-art science program.
Residents can meet their neighbors and take part in fun community activities at East County Community Center. Express your creative side in the paint room, meet your fitness goals in the gym or challenge friends to chess in the game room. Fairland residents have easy access to nature in a suburban setting by visiting the Fairland Recreation Park. The park features 4.4 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. It also offers plenty of options for outdoor recreation, from athletic fields to basketball and pickleball courts. The smaller Edgewood Park in the southern part of the neighborhood provides the perfect place for children to work off some energy on playground equipment and then eat lunch in the shade of a picnic pavilion. On the other side of the county, the Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex is a popular spot to exercise in the building’s year-round training pool, family-friendly leisure pool or spacious hot tub. Or you can sweat it out on the tennis courts, hosted in the complex’s signature “tennis bubble,” which allows for play in all four seasons.
You can eat a different style of food for practically every night of the week in Fairland. Get your noodle fix at Pho Real Vietnamese; go spicy at Tropicana Eatery, a Jamaican restaurant offering curry dishes; try plates of meat tibs and veggie combos at Fairland Ethiopian Restaurant; or grab some late-night bites at Christele’s Delights. And you can check off your errand list at Chaney Marketplace, a grab-bag of name-brand shops and restaurants.
With the neighborhood’s close proximity to DC, public transportation is a must. A generous number of bus stops pepper the neighborhood, providing access around town and to the Silver Spring Metro stop, which goes directly into the city. For those driving, Fairland sits as the cross section of Maryland route 200, known as the Intercounty Connecter, and Columbia Pike, state route 29, which also leads into DC.
