Find a simpler side of Carmel with Carmel Point and Hatton Fields, a collection of cozy streets removed from the action but still close to the heart of town. “When you move down towards Carmel Point or Hatton Fields, you’re moving a little farther from the main areas of Carmel-by-the-Sea,” says local innkeeper Joy Sanders. “It’s more quiet but just as nice, and you’re still close to the touristy part of town. Carmel Point and Hatton Fields sit between Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Carmel River, placing this collection of homes squarely in the heart of central California’s most stunning cove. The homes of Carmel Point stretch from the shores of Carmel Bay inland towards the suburbs of Hatton Fields. While the charming town center and bounty of local businesses in Carmel-by-the-Sea aren’t far, residents of these more secluded neighborhoods have quicker access to The Crossroads Carmel and Barnyard Shopping Village for their shopping and dining needs. Here, you can find your local grocery stores to easily knock out the day’s errands, or stop by any of the delicious eateries across this shopping destination. From Scratch, as the name suggests, dishes out scratch-made breakfast and lunch classics out of its laid-back patio location. Head to Sea Harvest Fish Market & Restaurant for a taste of the freshest shellfish and seafood classics made straight from the Pacific. Skip the big-name chains and grab your morning coffee from Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company, the hometown coffee shop where everything is made from organic, locally sourced beans.

Young residents of these neighborhoods also have access to quality education close to home. Carmel Point hosts Carmel River Elementary School, ranked by Niche.com as the No. 1 elementary school in Monterey County and in the top 100 elementary schools in the state. Children then get to move on to Carmel Middle School just down Carmel Valley Road. Niche.com ranks Carmel Middle as the No. 1 middle school in the county and the No. 31 middle school in California.

With beautiful beaches and quiet streets, both Carmel Point and Hatton Fields offer peaceful surroundings in one of California’s premier coastal towns. “So many people travel to this area for a reason,” Sanders says. “The beaches are stunning, but more than that, we have this amazing little town full of cool spots and talented artists.
