About Casas Adobes, AZ

From cattle ranches to communities of adobe houses

Casas Adobes is a primarily residential city of over 70,000 people. Over 70,000 people and proximity to Tucson for aerospace and military employers. With a surrounding natural landscape, it has expansive parks, an extensive trail system and popular sites, such as Tohono Chul. When the Nanini family came to the area in the 1950s, they converted cattle ranches into subdivisions. Today, there are shopping plazas, parks and medical facilities. Major employers in the region fall within the aerospace, defense and military sectors.

Trail networks, professional golf and local climate

Casas Adobes sits between the Saguaro National Park West and Catalina Mountains, which have extensive trail networks. Tohono Chul spans 49 acres with various gardens. During the winter, the garden is illuminated for its ticketed, award-winning event series, “Holiday Nights.” City parks have playgrounds and athletic fields. The Omni Tucson National Golf Resort is public and has two courses featured on various PGA Tours and NCAA events. The Northwest YMCA/Pima County Community Center has indoor fitness facilities and outdoor pools. Summers are warm and temperatures often peak over 100 degrees. The parks department recommends limiting activities to early mornings and late afternoons when temperatures are lowest. Monsoon season also occurs in the summer, dumping water across the area and filling dry washes such as the Rillito River.

Homes with RV parking and golf course access

Neighborhoods, including Casas Adobes Park and Casas Adobes Estates , are lined with ranch-style homes, territorial houses and Spanish Revivals. “A unique part of Casas Adobes Park is that it has bigger lots. The subdivisions have recreational vehicle parking and big backyards,” says Diego Leon, a licensed Realtor since June 2024 with United Real Estate. “The thing that’s unique is that many of these homes appear to be single-family, but they can fit a bunch of people.” Condos and townhouses also dot the community and are listed from around $80,000 to $1.1 million, like in the private golf course community Tucson National . The median single-family home price is about $390,000, which is below the national average and aligns with the Tucson median price.

North Oracle Road runs through the area’s east side, connecting the community with Tucson in about 10 miles. Interstate 10 travels north and south in western Casas Adobes, linking it with Tucson and the Tucson International Airport in under 20 miles. Tucson’s public transit provider, Sun Tran, has bus stops throughout Casas Adobes. Many roads are shared between cyclists and drivers. “The Huckleberry Loop runs for 138 miles around the Tucson metro. It’s paved and used for biking, walking and equestrian use and is connected to many parks. People use it as a commuter route because it’s so impressive,” says Callie Norton, the community engagement coordinator for Pima County Parks & Recreation. National retailers and the new Uptown development

National grocers, big box stores and major retailers are found along North Oracle Road, in the west. Casas Adobes Plaza is one of the area’s original shopping areas, built of red-brown bricks to mimic the Italian markets in Sam Nanini’s hometown. Mexican restaurants are popular throughout the Tucson metro, and Casas Adobe is no different, with various chain and locally owned establishments. Despite undergoing redevelopment to become Tucson’s first high-density urban village, the Foothills Mall, along with its AMC movie theater, remain open. The new development will result in a new “Uptown” and include over 800 residential units, 25 food and beverage concepts and one public market. Residences are expected to begin leasing units in 2025, though the project is not projected to be completed until the 2030s. For more options, the Tucson Premium Outlets are about 10 miles away from central Casas Adobes.
