About Central Point, OR

Centrally located Central Point

Taking after its name, Central Point is a quiet city located at the heart of the Rogue Valley, approximately 4 miles north of Medford. In 2020, the city had a population of just under 20,000 residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau. Central Point blends together 19th-century historic charm with modern infrastructure and amenities that help give the community its small-town, close-knit feel. “Central Point – along with White City – is kind of like a suburb of Medford,” says Taylor Lore, a local broker with Coldwell Banker Pro West Real Estate. “This area has seen lots of recent development of townhouses, which are great options for working professionals.” The city’s largest employers include Lithia Motors and the Jackson County School District, although some residents commute to nearby cities for work. The Siskiyou Mountains, a vast range full of hiking trails and outdoor recreation opportunities, border Central Point to the west.

City parks and outdoor destinations

The Central Point Parks and Recreation Department oversees 12 city parks, including the eight-acre Don Jones Memorial Park, the community’s largest outdoor space with features like athletic facilities and a water park area open from May through early September. Community recreation programs include a pickleball club, local gardens and soccer camps. Robynne Whitaker, a Realtor with Millen Property Group, notes that the Bear Creek Greenway stretches 28 miles from Ashland to Central Point and is a popular with pedestrians. “The greenway is mostly paved – you see people rollerblading, walking… and there are lots of parks along it,” Whitaker says. Sixty miles outside of the city is the iconic Crater Lake National Park, one of the state’s most popular natural destinations. Thousands of years ago, the Crater Lake caldera was formed by a volcanic eruption; with a maximum depth of 1,949 feet, the lake is known to be the deepest in the country. Central Point has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm, dry summers, meaning residents can enjoy year-round outdoor recreation.

Local mainstays include the Rogue Creamery, an iconic cheese and shop that’s been operating in the Rogue Valley since 1933. For big box stores and national retailers, locals can make the 3-mile drive south to the Rogue Valley Mall, a sprawling indoor commercial center with over 100 shops and eateries. Most of Central Point’s entertainment venues and attractions – including the Rogue Valley Family Fun Center, the Jackson County Fairgrounds and the Crater Rock Museum – are located just off Interstate 5 along the city’s northeastern boundary.
