Suburban Neighborhood in Centreville, Virginia
Fairfax County 20121
Life in Bull Run leaves little to be desired. Only 29 miles from DC and right in the middle of Centreville, Bull Run offers value in community events and education, plus a forested retreat in Bull Run Regional Park.
Bull Run has subdivisions branching off forested two-lane roads. Most houses were built between the 1990s and 2010s. “The value of homes in the area continues to increase,” says Sam Nassar, a real estate agent who specializes in the DMV area. “The area continues to be in high demand due to its convenient location close to DC.” Modern colonials with front porches make up most of the houses in this area, many including front porches and two-car garages with attached driveways. Houses are priced between $700,000 and $900,000, with town houses priced around $500,000.
“Bull Run has phenomenal schools,” says Nassar, “and the school district is a major selling point for prospective buyers.” Students in the area attend the well-regarded Fairfax County Public School District. Students growing up in Bull Run may attend Bull Run Elementary School, Liberty Middle School and Centreville High School. This high school was ranked A by Niche and is listed as the 28th best public high school in Virginia. Nearly 94.6 percent of Fairfax County students graduate on time, and more than 92 percent continue to post-secondary education.
Outside of school and work, locals head to Bull Run Regional Park for recreation. “Bull Run Regional Park is the center of many of Centreville’s community events,” says Nassar, “and a lot of people come from neighboring towns to enjoy festivals and holiday events here.” The park hosts recurring events, like the Festival of Lights, a drive-through show where the landscape glows with vibrant, color-changing lights, and Halloween Weekend at Bull Run, where locals enjoy a haunted hike and kids' craft contest. Nearby, the Izaak Walton Park Shooting Range offers locals a space to shoot clays. There’s also the Atlantis Waterpark at Bull Run, which is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer afternoon. For a more low-key place to swim, try Crofton Commons Pool, a public pool close to residential areas in Bull Run. “There’s even the Bull Run Marina nearby so people can go boating on a local offshoot of the Potomac River,” says Nassar. “This area has everything, while still being an easy commute to DC.”
On the weekends, locals shop at the nearby Manassas Mall or pick up groceries at the Food Lion, Aldi or Giant in nearby Yorkshire. When you’re in the mood for a beer, try Eavesdrop Brewery, a local favorite with a wide variety of drinks, including cider, beer and seltzers. Eavesdrop Brewery allows dogs and hosts live music on the weekends. For a dinner out, locals go to Yorkshire Restaurant, a family-run diner serving classic American fare like burgers and all-day breakfast.
From parks to pools to shopping, there’s never a shortage of activities in Bull Run. “This is a great place to live with plenty going on,” says Nassar.
