Find gifts and clothing at the shops downtown

Chandler’s collection of shopping and dining options blooms out of the path of Route 66. On the northern side of town, national mainstays like Walmart, McDonald’s, Subway and Sonic stand alongside local picks like Taco Mayo Mexican Food and Ken’s Pizza. Following Route 66 as it becomes Manvel Avenue, Downtown Chandler opens up with a selection of local shops like Sharpe’s Department Store, Manvel Avenue Coffee Company and Petal Pushers Flowers and Gifts. At the southern edge of the downtown area, Destinations Restaurant gives Chandler residents a laid-back spot for American fare with plenty of Route 66 memorabilia to set the tone.

Varied elective classes at Chandler High

Students in town attend the Chandler Public Schools district, which also serves students in nearby Midlothian and select areas in Lincoln County. The area’s youngest students go to East Side Elementary from pre-kindergarten to second grade. The school holds a B-plus grade on Niche. Students attend Park Road Elementary from third to sixth grade, then Chandler Junior High from seventh to ninth grade. Both schools have B grades with Niche users. Chandler High School offers a variety of elective classes for students, from desktop publishing to horticulture. The school earned a B on Niche.

Camp out at Tilghman Park

Tourists and Chandler residents alike appreciate the facilities at Tilghman Park. In addition to 40 RV hookups, the park features a pavilion, restrooms, a playground and picnic tables. Rainbow Park offers another playground and picnic tables on 3rd Street, with the town’s swimming pool to its immediate north. The Centennial Garden provides an ideal setting to appreciate the city’s natural landscape with a gazebo and pergola, making it a popular spot for photos, weddings and get-togethers.

Catch a movie or bowl a strike

“For being a small town, Chandler offers quite a bit of different things to do,” Saxon says. The H&S Theatre in town has operated continuously for 97 years, and Chandler’s local cinema still keeps up with contemporary releases. New films are shown in the local auditorium every few weeks. The Chandler Roundup Club joins the town’s horseback riding enthusiasts together for rodeo nights at Tilghman Park, while Lincoln County on Stage regularly stages community theater shows with a mix of plays and musicals. Residents can also enjoy a night out at the 66 Bowl bowling alley, which features bowling leagues, weekly shuffleboarding, karaoke events, laser tag and putt-putt.

Take I-44 to Tulsa or Oklahoma City

Professionals working in the downtown Oklahoma City area can expect a commute of about 45 miles between Chandler and the workplace using Interstate 44 West. Residents can also count on a 63 mile drive to the Tulsa area on Interstate 44 East. The nearest hospital is Stroud Regional Medical Center, 13 miles east of town in Stroud.
