Genesis Park’s name isn’t accidental: It reflects the work of community activists in remaking and rejuvenating the southern corner of Double Oaks. This was done primarily through renovating homes, rather than demolishing them. “About a half dozen homes, primarily on the north side, have been complete teardowns, with custom builds going in their place. But the others have remained the same,” says Drew Ludeke, a resident of neighboring Brightwalk and a Realtor with Coldwell Banker who has been selling properties in the area for six years. From the active community garden to the shops and art installations of Camp North End just a few streets away, Genesis Park continues to exemplify resilience. It's an unassuming enclave with big-hearted neighbors.
Genesis Park is small but holds onto a strong sense of community.

Houses in Genesis Park
Genesis Park’s streets are lined with an assortment of compact cottages, bungalows, ranch-style homes and American Foursquares. Some homes are perched on hills. Driveways often can’t fit more than two cars, so some residents opt to park on sidewalks. Most homes were constructed during the 1950s, and many have been spruced up with renovations and a fresh coat of paint, if not torn down and rebuilt anew within the last decade. Genesis Park is not an HOA neighborhood, which is uncommon for Charlotte. Lots are typically around 5,000 square feet, which makes them a bit roomier than the detached homes and townhouses up in Brightwalk. Home prices typically range between $250,000 and $450,000, with freshly renovated homes on the higher end and houses still on their way on the lower end.
Genesis Park has seen many of the homes renovated in fantastic ways.

Exploring Camp North End
As with neighboring Brightwalk, Genesis Park is anchored by Camp North End, a sprawling business park with an interesting history. “It used to be an old Model T factory, but they repurposed it to be a mixed-used commercial space,” Ludeke says. “They do live events there throughout the year like a big market during Christmastime. But they’ve also added a lot more popular businesses there like food stalls and an offshoot of a local brewery.” Food stalls include Bleu Barn, which sources the ingredients for their Americana dishes from local Carolinian farmers, and Halal Street Food, a unique fusion of Caribbean and Mediterranean cuisine. Outside of Camp North End’s pickings, Curry Gate is highlighted by Ludeke as a local favorite, serving up Indian and Pakistani cuisine. For shopping, Wayne’s Super Market and Family Dollar are just down the street. Plenty more restaurants and shops can be found in Uptown just to the south.
