Charlotte neighborhood with mix of homes and nightlife

Located right on the edge of Uptown Charlotte, the neighborhood of Greenville features a diverse scene. The upper part is largely made up of residential blocks occupied by humble single-story homes, while its southern end houses some of the city’s most renown live entertainment and event venues. All based at the AvidXChange Music Factory complex, these spaces have hosted a large variety of activities ranging from live music acts — with even some of the industry’s big names making visits — comedy shows and dancing troupes to game nights and dining. And although it’s not exactly within the neighborhood bounds, Greenville is but a short distance from Camp North End. The 76-acre repurposed industrial site houses a large mix of uses that include dining, art studios and office spaces for companies in a variety of sectors. “It’s a fantastic hangout. They have a long list of rotating attractions,” says Kristin Tapoozian, a Realtor with The Redbud Group. But although many might know this part of the city for the entertainment and nightlife, it still has a strong community feel. The older residents often go to the Ivory/Baker Recreation Center just north of the neighborhood to take part in senior dances and bridge nights, while teens flock to the facility for the open court times. “It’s really accessible to Uptown and a lot of the other social districts in the area. That’s really huge for them,” says Anthony Bucson, a senior rec specialist at the Ivory/Baker center, about the area’s appeal.

Festivities at the Music Factory

The complex of live performance spaces located right along North Carolina Music Factory Boulevard is this community’s main attraction. From dimly-lit and intimate spaces to the more extravagant Fillmore Charlotte with its bright stage lights and chandeliers, these venues have been stopping points for performers like Lil Yachty and Young the Giant. The AvidXchange Music Factory Festival Grounds hosts the annual Moo, Brew & ‘Que Music Fest, billed as one of the city’s most anticipated events. As its name suggests, goers over a three-day period can enjoy wide selections of barbecue, burgers and beer, all while being treated to a lineup of live music.
