Bordering busy thoroughfares and nature trails

Flanked by the thriving South Boulevard to the west and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway to the east, this mature South Charlotte neighborhood has a bright future ahead. Considered by locals to be an up-and-coming neighborhood, Starmount Forest’s mid-20th-century homes are seeing an uptick in price as Charlotte’s population skyrockets and homebuyers flock further out to the suburbs. “With South Boulevard expanding further and further away from the city, that increase in popularity has really taken off,” says Lindsay Patton, a local Realtor with the Redbud Group. “It’s a smart place to buy, as the Boulevard is only going to continue to expand in upcoming years.” Residents here benefit from ease of travel along the light rail blue line, and they’re also close to South Charlotte attractions like SouthPark Mall.

Ranch-style homes and clusters of condos

Apartment and condo communities sit along winding, wooded roads across the southern half of the neighborhood. To the north, brick ranch-style and split-level homes built between the 1960s and ‘70s line the streets. Some are bordered by sidewalks and perch atop gentle slopes, while others rest on flat quarter-acre lots dotted by oaks. Room to roam outdoors and spacious basements inside make these single-family properties highly sought-after, and median home prices tend to land at around $460,000. According to Starmount Forest native and Realtor Brianna Forte with the Redbud Group, “When homes go on the market here, they are sold quickly, and values are trending up.” Condos and townhouses on the opposite end of the neighborhood sell for considerably less, typically listing between the $100,000 and $200,000 range for one or two bedrooms.

Miles of trails in the neighborhood’s backyard

The neighborhood’s east side is bounded by a lush, winding estuary. A pedestrian bridge at the end of Rockledge Drive opens up to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, a scenic waterside trail that sprawls for miles past grassy hillsides and wooded lakefronts. Parks and playgrounds branch off the paved footpath in every direction, starting at Huntingtown Farms Park. Families love the park for its playground and sporting facilities, but residents can also get their hands dirty planting produce in the community garden. For year-round recreation, pickleball pros and tennis stars head to Charlotte Tennis NC to hit the indoor courts. Starclaire Recreation Club also has courts and a swimming pool open exclusively to members.

Global learning at South Meck High

Starmount Forest students are served by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Forte recalls her time at Starmount Elementary, now Starmount Academy of Excellence, where she enjoyed peaceful walks home from school along tree-lined Brookdale Avenue. “I would describe Starmount as a little slice of heaven — not too busy with lots of character and charm,” Forte says. The elementary school receives a C-minus from Niche, while Carmel Middle earns a B-plus. South Mecklenburg High, which earns an A-minus, is home to a world language magnet program. At “South Meck,” students can choose from one of six languages, including Japanese and American Sign Language.

Daily needs and local eats at a close by shopping center

Everyday needs await at the Quail Corners shopping center, just east on Sharon Road West. Equipped with a Harris Teeter, UPS store, Walgreens and GoHealth Urgent Care, residents can grab groceries and run errands quickly. A cluster of local restaurants also makes it easy to pick up dinner on the way home or stop in for a night out. Waterbean Coffee’s sleek interior and fresh-brewed drinks make it a perfect place to get some work done, while Rusty’s Deli and Grille is an old standby for lunch on the go. The bulletin board full of neighborhood ads and flyers is the hallmark of a true community staple. Wolfman Pizza’s quirky werewolf theme is paired with scary good pies that make for convenient takeout on busy nights, but residents will want to dine in at Riceblossom to take in the authentic Chinese restaurant’s decorative cherry blossom tree adorned with paper lanterns. SouthPark Mall, Charlotte’s premiere retail destination, is about four and a half miles away from the neighborhood. The mall is home to big-box and name-brand stores ranging from Apple to American Girl Place, making it a popular weekend hangout.

Travel by light rail across town

South Boulevard is residents’ express ticket to Uptown, bypassing Interstate 77 traffic in a roughly nine-mile drive. For a car-free trip, residents can hop on the Lynx Blue Line light rail at the Sharon Road West station. Charlotte Area Transit bus lines also run along the Boulevard, offering even more transportation options.

The community is amazing because they support their local high school football teams. Some restaurants have the local high school teams jerseys framed.
