Mounting investment potential 3 miles from Uptown
This close-in Charlotte alcove is for buyers with their sights set on proximity to the city center at accessible price points. "People love that you’re so close to Uptown,” says Kathryn Cook-Crespo, a broker and Realtor with Nestlewood Realty. “There are some houses where you can actually have views of Uptown Charlotte in your backyard." This historically overlooked location has a mixed-feel landscape and lots of potential — potential that has been coming to light as the city’s Corridors of Opportunity project sets its sights on the West Boulevard area for infrastructure and transit improvements.
Uptown Charlotte and the amenities of a large city are only minutes away from West Boulevard.

From established subdivisions to brand-new townhouses
Just off busy West Boulevard, residential streets are a mix of established neighborhoods, busy apartment complexes and newly constructed homes. Modest brick ranch-style homes and Minimal Traditional cottages line the streets beneath the lofty branches of old-growth maples, while sleek townhouses with modern finishings crop up in neatly arranged rows. “You’re going to see a lot of renovations here in the near future,” says Mark Weinberg, Realtor at Carolina Sky Realty. A smattering of recently constructed two-story homes near the elementary school come in an array of pastel colors and perch along petite, grassy lots. While these newer properties can sell for nearly $400,000, older homes start in the lower $300,000s. Three-bedroom townhouses with new appliances list at a median price of $375,000.

A renewed focus on improving transit and crime rates
The historically Black neighborhoods that line West Boulevard have become the focus of the city’s Corridors of Opportunity project, an initiative to improve the quality of life in Charlotte’s underinvested communities. Accessible housing options, infrastructure updates and new strategies to curb crime are slated for the area. The West Boulevard neighborhood currently holds a CAP Index crime score of 7 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. With all the changes planned for West Boulevard, there’s also a renewed focus on preserving the community’s culture and history. Public art displays will soon decorate the corridor along Remount Road, with input from residents to reflect the neighborhood’s storied past and promising future. Project leads worked with the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition (WBNC), a neighborhood nonprofit working to improve the quality of life in the area.
West Boulevard residents have easy access to the Charlotte CATS bus system.

Longtime local restaurants serve residents
A Walmart Supercenter close to home provides everyday needs and is next to some neighborhood mainstays. “There are some businesses, but they’re all owned by individuals, so there’s that neighborhood feeling of what Charlotte has always been and hasn’t lost,” says Cook-Crespo. “Those people care about their product and their company.” Bar-B-Q King has been a local hotspot serving up Carolina-style barbecue at its vintage drive-in since 1959, though it spiked in popularity after a feature on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The intersection at Remount Road is also home to familiar favorites representing an array of international cuisines, from oxtail pizza at Renaldo’s Culinary Experience to tamales at El Sazón Latino. The Lower South End, locally known as LoSo, is a regional go-to for shopping and dining about 3 miles down Clanton Road. This collection of funky breweries and unique eateries is connected to the rest of the city via light rail.
You can head to Bar-B-Q King for their famous Carolina fried chicken.

Elementary school students can walk to class
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools serve this evolving neighborhood. Charles H. Parker Academic Center houses students in prekindergarten through the fifth grade and scores a B-plus from Niche. Sedgefield Middle earns a B-minus, while Harding University High receives a C grade. The high school is home to the district’s law, social justice and forensic pathology magnet program, which offers real-world experience and college-level courses to motivated students. All three schools are within a 10-minute drive for West Boulevard residents, though several charter and magnet schools are also available through Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s school choice program.
The Charles H. Parker Academic Center serves just over 470 students.
Many West Boulevard students will have their second education experience at Sedfield Middle.

Escape into nature along or tee up on the greens
Carving through the woodsy south side of the neighborhood is Irwin Creek Greenway, a quiet nature trail that feels far away from city life. Clanton Park is a short walk or bicycle ride away, filled with kids running around the playground after school and family cookouts and soccer games on the weekends. West Boulevard is also sandwiched between two golfing destinations. Carolina Golf Club’s private course dates to 1929 and is one of Charlotte’s most exclusive clubs, while the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course fairways are open to the public for a quick nine-hole round.
You can enjoy a long walk on the 2.7 mile long Irwin Creek Greenway.
You can play a game of 1 on 1 or just get in some practice at the Clanton Road Community Park.

Take the highway into Uptown or drive to the nearest light rail station
Commuters are 3 miles from Uptown via I-77, with an entrance right at the I-277 interchange, making trips around the metro a breeze. The Scaleybark park-and-ride light rail station is also 2 miles away, perfect for those who want to bypass the highway traffic. Although the area is car-dependent, Charlotte Area Transit System buses stop along the West Boulevard for another alternative to driving. Even worldwide travel is within reach, with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport just 5 miles away. “A light rail line was approved from the airport into the city, and there’s also a streetcar line that will connect as well,” Cook-Crespo adds.
Charlotte Douglass Airport is only 5 miles away from West Boulevard.
West Boulevard locals can catch a ride to Uptown at the Scaleybark light rail station.
