Peaceful living in the historic town center of Chelmsford
Bordering Putnam Brook on the south end and with Beaver Brook flowing through the heart of the community, Chelmsford Center is a peaceful yet lively town center that embodies all the charms of the nearly 370-year-old New England town, Chelmsford. Located between the intersection of Massachusetts Route 4 and Westford Street, Town Common serves as the community’s gathering place with various events, including public concerts and farmers markets. As people drive past lively cafes, restaurants and independent boutiques such as The Druzy Rose, they may hear the bells of local churches ring at the top of the hour. As a historic town that continues to transform and modernize, homebuyers can expect Victorian-era single-family homes standing alongside 1970s Colonial Revivals and ranch styles as well as brand new condominiums. Additional highlights include a highly reputable public school system, a neat art center with various events and a supportive community. “From my personal experience Chelmsford has a great community vibe,” says Angela Caputo Griswold, who is a local resident and Realtor at ERA Key Realty Services with 6 years of experience. “The town has many supportive groups like the Chelmsford Mothers Club, and there are Facebook pages for different neighborhoods and local points of interest. These groups are there for you when you need them, and you can also do your own thing.”
Art can be spotted along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail.
The Chelmsford Center for the Arts is in the town center.

Victorian-era homes neighboring new condominiums and townhouses
Chelmsford Center has a wooded landscape, with many roads and houses tucked behind towering pines and maple trees. The streets can be winding and rustic and are often complemented by narrow sidewalks. The community has many Victorian-era homes built from the late 1800s to early 1920s, and many were Colonial-inspired properties with gabled roofs, porticos and prominent dormer or bay windows. Houses developed later were mainly built from the 1950s to the 1970s, and these range from ranch styles to split-levels and Colonial Revivals. Many single-family homes sell between $500,000 and $700,000, though residences with more than 2,000 square feet of living space on a half-acre lot fetch anywhere from $750,000 to over $1 million. In this neighborhood, “even if you’re moving into an older home, it’s probably going to be well maintained," says Michelle Souza, a residential real estate agent at Chinatti Realty. "I think that’s a reason that properties are holding their values so well.” Condos from the 1960s list around $200,000, while new condominium units and townhouses built within the past decade are close to $700,000 or $800,000. Yards are usually well-maintained, and some properties have trees and shrubs as boundary fences.
