Neighborhood in Chesterfield, Virginia
Chesterfield County 23120, 23832
In the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia, Hampton Park has the feel of a movie set. There are tree-lined streets, winding walking trails and hundreds of homes with large porches. Baskets of flowers hang in front of houses, and children run along sidewalks on their way to the playground or the water park. Residents smile and wave.
It's not fiction, though, that the Chesterfield County neighborhood has been voted Community of the Year multiple times by the Home Building Association of Richmond.
Hampton Park is a planned community with 750 detached single-family homes on 450 acres. In addition to walking trails and several playgrounds, its amenities include three stocked fishing ponds, two lakes and a 15-acre nature preserve. There also are active men's and women's clubs, as well as the Hampton Park Hammerheads swim club for all ages.
The neighborhood homeowner’s association upholds the Hampton Park aesthetic, which includes preserving the area’s natural elements and a feeling of openness. Custom-built houses tend to be one or two story, with square footage of 1,500 to 2,000 square feet on the smaller end. Houses have brick foundation skirts that unify the neighborhood look. Lawns are well-manicured, and with houses set back 40 feet from the streets, there’s plenty of room for custom landscaping.
The Swift Creek Family YMCA, opened in 2012, is an integral part of life in Hampton Park. Located near Swift Creek Reservoir, the Y offers camps for children, child care, community programs, swimming, youth sports and more.
The Hampton Park Men’s Club hosts community events and works with local Richmond nonprofits such as food banks and the Autism Society. The Woman’s Club also participates in charity work and community service while promoting social engagement in the neighborhood.
The men’s and women’s clubs put on events in Hampton Park throughout the year. One of the largest is Oktoberfest, sponsored by the men's club. The family-friendly event features a beer truck for adults, a game truck for the kids and live music. There’s also plenty of German sausages at this community potluck, where every family is asked to bring a dish to share.
During warmer months, kids and grown-ups can be found at the neighborhood waterpark. Featuring two pools and a splash pad, this compact park offers relief from the summer heat. After a refreshing dip on the Fourth of July, you can catch the annual parade that winds through the area and ends at a free carnival for the community.
