A close community of impressive homes in Maryland
Those looking to live in a quiet enclave of stately homes near the heart of the nation’s capital turn to Chevy Chase Village, an incorporated village situated along the border between Maryland and Washington, D.C. “It’s a little piece of Americana surrounded by city amenities,” says Meredith Margolis, an Executive Vice President at Compass who has served the D.C. area since 2006. “It’s next to D.C., just on the Maryland side. A lot of people move there for the access and schools. Plus, you can vote there.” Residents can often be found golfing at the Chevy Chase Club or walking along the brick sidewalks to local parks, but they aren’t also far from the nightlife in Bethesda or the energy of the nation’s capital.

Stately 20th century homes on tree-lined streets
Gridded streets lined with sidewalks and mature trees define Chevy Chase Village, where most front yards feature pristine landscaping and stone walkways. The neighborhood’s homes were primarily built in the early 20th century, and homebuyers can choose between stately properties in Greek Revival, Tudor Revival or Colonial Revival designs. Most homes cost between $1.3 million and $2.3 million, though some cost as much as $3.3 million.

Golf at Chevy Chase Club or relax at neighborhood parks
Residents can join the prestigious Chevy Chase Club to play rounds of golf on the 18-hole course, meet for tennis matches, swim laps in the heated pool or socialize at the clubhouse. Small parks are located within walking distance of most homes throughout the neighborhood — locals can take their kids to the playground at Leland Neighborhood Park or take a book to a bench at Western Grove Urban Park, where they can also begin walking on the Georgetown Branch Trail.

Sushi and shopping at The Collection at Chevy Chase
Chevy Chase Village is almost fully residential, though the southwestern corner of the neighborhood has The Collection at Chevy Chase, an outdoor shopping center with popular restaurants and retailers. Locals can order crabcakes and cocktails in a dimly lit, retro-inspired environment at Clyde’s of Chevy Chase or indulge in sushi rolls at Sushiko. For an after-work happy hour or Saturday brunch, there’s the Junction Bistro, Bar and Bakery. When they’re done eating, residents can shop for high-end apparel and home goods at Saks Fifth Avenue, appreciate the fine art at Merritt Gallery or treat themselves to a beauty service at one of the area’s spas. For groceries, there’s Amazon Fresh, which has a virtual cart system that allows shoppers to skip the checkout lines and walk out of the store, and Whole Foods.

The Friendship Heights Metro serves as Chevy Chase Village's public transit option.
Major roadways make for an easy commute to D.C.
Locals can step out for a morning walk to nearby amenities on sidewalk-lined residential streets, but driving out of the neighborhood is common. Connecticut Avenue takes residents 2 miles north to Bethesda and 6 miles southeast to Downtown Washington, D.C. They can also drive east to merge onto Interstate 495 to travel throughout the greater DMV area. Residents can catch the Metro at the Friendship Heights station, just over the southwestern corner of the neighborhood, or head to bus stops operated by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation along the central roadways that border Chevy Chase Village.
Spring into Summer with neighbors in Chevy Chase Village
Bethesda and Washington D.C. are always buzzing with activity, so locals often take advantage of their central location to attend festivals, galleries and large events nearby. However, neighbors meet for local events hosted by the village, like the Spring into Summer event, where residents can grab a bite from a food truck, enjoy live music and play cornhole. Children can show off their artwork during the neighborhood’s junior art show, and locals can connect with their local police and firefighter departments over hot dogs and snacks during the annual National Night Out event. Chevy Chase Village celebrates holidays together with a Halloween party and a holiday party.

Small-town amenities near the city
As an incorporated municipality and special taxing area, Chevy Chase Village offers residents additional services that they won’t find in nearby neighborhoods. “In the Village, they pay for it with the taxes, but they have their own police force, which will watch your house for you when you go out of town,” Margolis says. The village has an independent recycling and trash collection, and locals can stay up-to-date by reading The Crier, the neighborhood’s monthly newsletter. New residents can pick up a welcome packet at the communications center and schedule a meeting with the chief of police to learn more about the neighborhood’s public services.
