Newer neighborhood with Western feel
Saddle Ridge is one of Cheyenne’s newer neighborhoods, situated in an isolated location 6 miles from downtown. The master-planned area has a countryside feel, with views of the mountains and proximity to dirt roads and rural land, but it also feels suburban, with its new 21st-century homes and walkability to parks and schools. “What attracted me to the community was the part of the neighborhood we’re in was older and had kids my daughter’s age and professionals,” says Jim Walter, director of marketing and sales at Visit Cheyenne and Saddle Ridge resident. “But at the same time, down in the lower part of the neighborhood, you have a lot of younger kids."
It’s a peaceful suburb with quiet streets where neighbors walk their dogs down the well-paved sidewalks every day. Kids and their parents can also easily walk to the neighborhood’s synonymous school. “People are very friendly,” Walter says. “Often, I wish we had a bigger front porch, because people tend to talk to each other on their front porches.” It gets quieter in the winter, when winds that reach 50 to 60 miles per hour keep people inside. But what remains strong year-round is community support. “People help out each other,” Walter says. “My first winter, I was out there, and people got their cars stuck, and I could see up the road. Myself and others would go down to help them.”

Modern farmhouses and contemporary homes
Saddle Ridge has different types of homes to suit the needs of different buyers. “In Saddle Ridge, there’s single-family homes, twin homes and now they just finished 330 apartments, and they’ve got two more of those to do,” says Brenton Leavitt, associate broker at RE/MAX Capitol Properties. “People move out there because it’s new and affordable. It’s more planned; it’s not as random as down in the city.” Modern farmhouses and contemporary homes often come with two to three-car garages. Neighbors decorate their lawns depending on the season and plant flowers. “It’s a clean neighborhood. A lot of the residents take care of their lawns.” Walter says, “There are people around the neighborhood all the time.” Townhouses cost from $330,000 to $460,000. Single-family homes range from $440,000 for a one-story to $640,000 for a five-bedroom home. “We’re only 15 minutes from downtown and still in the city. We get the services of trash, water and sewer,” Walter says.
