Current reinvestment, a civil rights legacy

Some initiatives involve budget-friendly housing, business support and broadband internet infrastructure. The Greater Southwest Development Corporation, the Southwest Organizing Project and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network are just a few of the organizations dedicated to the area's progress.
The neighborhood also is known for its connection to the civil rights movement. Houses include two-flats and Chicago bungalows
Marquette Park, also known as Chicago Lawn, features homes built in the first half of the 20th century, like Chicago bungalows, which have brick exteriors, low-pitched roofs and sizeable windows. Two-flats, which have separate living areas on two floors but are sold as a single property, are also common. Prices typically range from about $120,000 to $350,000. There's a significant number of rentals in the area.
Among the programs related to housing, Southwest Organizing Project's reclaiming campaign takes vacant homes, fixes them up to high standards and make sure they go to local families. The campaign's goal includes dozens more.
