Kids grow up and live on the next block. People don’t move all that often. Restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries line the sides of Lawrence Avenue, which acts as the Mayfair downtown and transforms into a commercial district further east in Albany Park. Music festivals and area culture
North Mayfair is a culturally diverse neighborhood. Chicago’s Irish American Heritage Center, two blocks south, hosts book clubs, live folk music at its theater and food at the 5th Province Pub. There are three masjids within four blocks along Elston and Lawrence Avenue. The Salvation Army Mayfair Community Church holds services and offers community support at the neighborhood’s northeast corner. Lollapalooza is perhaps the biggest event in the region with an annual music festival in a four-day event. In 2024, there are over 170 artists performing live. Mayfair Fest is a fall festival with games, live music, entertainment and food trucks in Mayfair Park. The Chicago Blues Festival is another event that highlights the city's music history.

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the 20 miles of paved and unpaved trails for hiking and biking at LaBagh Woods, a nature preserve about a mile north that connects to Gompers Park. “We enjoy having that close by. You can literally walk across Foster Avenue, hop onto the trail and not even feel like you’re in the city,” says Burki.
