Charming Cincinnati suburb with spacious outdoor spaces and a popular country club

Homebuyers who want to settle down away from the busy streets of Cincinnati don’t have to travel far. The coveted neighborhood of Covedale is a secluded oasis just 8 miles from downtown Cincinnati. The area feels separate from the city but close enough for residents to enjoy everything the city has to offer. “Covedale is super charming and welcoming,” says Maria Nicholls, a Realtor with Hoeting Realtors. Because of its variety of home types, creative school programs, spacious outdoor spaces and popular country clubs, Covedale has become a popular Cincinnati suburb.

From Tudors and Georgian homes to brick ranch-style homes

Along Neeb Road, storybook Tudors and elegant Georgian houses are common, while Sylved Lane leads you past brick ranch-style homes. As homebuyers travel down Sidney Road several streets away, architectural designs become even more diverse. Homes in the neighborhood have sold for between $100,000 to $500,000. “It’s an older suburb, so you’ll see a good variation of home styles and lots,” says Alicia Stoughton, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. “It’s a great area for first-time homebuyers.” While most Covedale homes are beloved midcentury structures, there is still plenty of room for growth or downsizing. On the west side of the neighborhood, new development Sycamore Gables offers 20 empty-nester lots and 14 estate lots, complete with two ponds, and natural beauty abounds with mature trees. While sidewalks line some neighborhood streets, residents rely on cars to get around, backed up by Covedale’s Walk Score of 10 out of 100. As for crime, Covedale received a Crime Score of 3 out of 10 from the CAP Index, which is lower than the national average.

Split among two school districts

Students in the area attend one of two public school systems: Oak Hills Local School District or the Cincinnati City School District. Students may start at Covedale School, which earned a C grade from Niche and is one of five elementary schools in the Cincinnati school system to be a part of a project that is a collaboration between GE Aviation and the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum (NASM) project. From there, students may move on to either Gilbert A. Dater High School or Western Hills High School, both of which earned a C grade from Niche. Both schools offer a Public Safety and Emergency Medical Services program to prepare students for careers as first responders. As for private school options, residents could send their children to either Seton High School or Elder High School, both of which earned an A-minus grade from Niche.

From chili at Price Hill Chili Family Restaurant to gyros at Sebastian’s

Residents can access shopping and eateries on Anderson Ferry Road. While Glenway Crossing Shopping Center and Western Hills Marketplace house many big-box names and franchises, small businesses dot the area. Price Hill Chili Family Restaurant is a popular neighborhood spot for what its name suggests. “They have great chili,” Nicolls says. “It competes with the famous Skyline chili and Gold Star Chili here in Cincinnati.” Diane’s Restaurant keeps locals grounded by offering homestyle cooking in a warm atmosphere. “We’re very family-oriented,” says Dana West, the restaurant’s operations manager. A local himself, West says residents enjoy bowling at Western Bowl up Glenway Avenue or heading west past Miami Heights for motor racing action at Edgewater Park. Across the street from Diane’s, Cincinnati staple and German bakery Servatii Pastry Shop & Deli has dozens of delicious desserts. Around the corner, Sebastian’s has been attracting customers with the mouthwatering smells of classic Greek fare since 1976. For groceries, there is an ALDI, Walmart Supercenter and a Kroger just east of the neighborhood.
