A summer of thrills at Kemah Boardwalk
"We love to get together to compete in BBQ and gumbo cookoffs, and there's even a fishing derby for the kids on the island," Duffy says. During the evening, Jammin' on Jarboe is seven Saturdays of Texas Blues, jazz rock and country tunes at the Paul Shelley Pavilion. For over two decades, the lads of the island have cooked breakfast for the community during Mancakes in February. That same month was the Mardi Gras Golf Cart Parade and Gumbo Cookoff. Weekly festivities include board game days at the clubhouse and yoga classes. With the Kemah Boardwalk about 1 mile east, locals can access the bay's premier amusement park and dozens of events ranging from free concerts, a crawfish festival, a boat parade and a jam-packed 4th of July celebration.

Get to Houston in under an hour
Though far from Bayou City, Clear Lake Shores is between State Highway 146 and Interstate 45, leading to Houston in about forty-five minutes, depending on traffic.
