A sense of community in a trendy Cleveland neighborhood
In Lincoln Heights, a hub of Cleveland factories has transformed into a haven of new development and recreation. Though Nestlé still operates a plant in this section of Tremont, other industrial buildings have been converted in recent years: a 1940s industrial building is now a booze-friendly dog park; an abandoned dairy factory now houses an acupuncturist and a gym. However, beyond Lincoln Heights’ trendy businesses and glossy new apartments is a longstanding community bonded by the neighborhood’s Block Club. “Every resident is a member of the block club, whether or not they choose to participate,” says Carolyn Bentley, team leader of The Bentley Group at Howard Hanna who has a decade of experience in Cleveland real estate. The active group of neighbors meets monthly to address concerns such as rising housing costs and street light repair.
Walking to bars and a bakery in Lincoln Heights
Most homes in Lincoln Heights are within a short walk of a brewery, bar or café. Locals can start the morning with a pastry and a coffee at Leavened or pick up a fresh-baked loaf of focaccia for lunch at home. Within the neighborhood, Porco Lounge & Tiki Room has a lengthy cocktail menu and a top-to-bottom island theme. Taps & Tails is another popular spot to grab a drink, especially for those with a dog in tow. Part doggy day care, part bar, Taps & Tails welcomes pets and pet parents looking to socialize. For more options, Ohio City is less than a mile away, as are the Tremont shops and restaurants lining Professor Street. Grocery shoppers can head to Dave’s Markets, which has a deli and a bakery.

Greater housing affordability within Tremont
Many Lincoln Heights residents live in compact National homes with Queen Anne stylings, or contemporary apartments with sleek minimalist exteriors. Though many homes are still standing from the late 1800s and early 1900s, Bentley says many were quickly assembled to support industrial workers at the time. “The housing stock was not built to last 100 years,” she says. “Tremont is getting a reputation as a great place for new construction.” Most development so far has focused on apartments, though in 2023, the Cleveland Planning Commission approved construction on a combined townhouse and apartment complex on Brevier Avenue.
Investment properties typically range between $60,000 and $140,000, while fully renovated homes can sell up to $525,000. Most turnkey homes fall between $225,000 and $450,000. Though Lincoln Heights is not as business-packed as the core of Tremont to the east, Lincoln Heights’ average sale price of $264,000 is cheaper than Tremont’s average of $418,000.

Lincoln Park hosts the Tremont Farmers Market
Lincoln Park is an 8-acre expanse of open grass and trees with a playground, gazebo and a public pool. The park hosts the Tremont Farmers Market, a Tuesday ritual between May and October. Residents can enjoy live music while picking through fresh tomatoes, homemade jams and vegan cakes.
The 90-mile Towpath Trail is also easily accessible, skirting past the north end of Lincoln Heights. Once a route where mules pulled goods and passengers down the Ohio & Erie Canal, the trail is now a scenic stretch for joggers, cyclists and dog walkers to explore the Cuyahoga’s riverfront.
Lincoln Heights locals often play at Lincoln Park's playground in the afternoon.

Walkability is a draw, though I-90 is nearby
Some homes have driveways between the narrow alleys between houses, though Bentley says the ability to walk or bike is one of the area’s biggest selling points. Sidewalks line both sides of the road, and a decommissioned shipping container offers a sheltered bike rack in the neighborhood.
Interstate 90 wraps around the neighborhood, providing a 4-mile commute to downtown Cleveland. Those who prefer public transit can hop on a train at W. 25-Ohio City Station a half-mile away. Buses run along 25th Street.
Tremont events foster community
People here are highly involved in their community, attending monthly meetings of the Lincoln Heights Block Club or one of Tremont’s many events. Taste of Tremont, an annual street festival, is a celebration of local chefs and businesses, and a reflection of the area’s growing restaurant scene. At Arts in August, locals bring blankets and camp chairs to Lincoln Park to enjoy weekly performances from local arts institutions such as the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival and the Ohio Contemporary Ballet. Within Lincoln Heights, Convergence-Continuum theatre puts on plays year-round.
