A couple miles south of downtown Cleveland is the North Broadway neighborhood, which started around the turn of the 20th century as a mainly industrial area. While some industrial buildings remain, the area has become a primarily residential community. It’s filled with houses that date to the neighborhood's beginning. North Broadway is also trying to improve life, especially for its younger people, by offering programs to keep them on the right path. The neighborhood, while getting a 6 overall score on the CAP Crime Index, receives higher numbers on a couple of violent crime categories.
Help for youth
A couple of organizations are working in North Broadway to help the neighborhood youth by mentoring them and helping them become well-rounded people. The first organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, has provided a safe after-school space for Cleveland’s children for over 70 years. These clubs offer mentorship and homework help, the opportunity to learn healthy lifestyles, various after-school programs and extracurricular amenities such as gymnasiums and playgrounds. The second organization, across the street from the Boys & Girls Club, is Beat the Streets Cleveland, which also provides homework help and mentoring. Still, the organization's focus is to help children develop sportsmanship, garner self-confidence, and improve critical thinking and goal setting through the sport of wrestling. Together, these two facilities are helping to improve the well-being of Cleveland’s future.

Recreation outdoors
Whether it’s a walking path in the southern part of the neighborhood or various green spaces dotted throughout, recreation opportunities are plentiful, including Regent Park, which has a splash pad and is a cooling-off spot for kids during hot summer days; there’s also a couple of basketball courts, a baseball field and a playground. Barkwill Park is smaller, with two basketball courts, a small green space area and a playground. Morgana Run Trail used to be a railway corridor. Today, it’s a popular path for walkers, joggers and bikers. Adventurous trial-goers can venture south a few miles to view Mill Creek Falls at the trail's southern end. That’s the largest waterfall in Cuyahoga County. A different kind of recreation to observe or actively participate in is at Cleveland Velodrome, the area’s only track cycling facility. There are races to observe here, or take lessons and participate in a race.

Most homes under $100,000
Some homes date to the 1880s, and some may need renovation. “Home prices in the community vary. Properties listed between $90,000 to $100,000 typically fall within the higher end of the market in North Broadway,” says Darian Thomas, a Realtor with Keller Williams Greater Metropolitan with almost ten years of experience in real estate. Some homes on the lower end of the price range are priced at about $30,000. Colonial Revival, Cape Cod, modest cottages and even Queen-Anne-influenced two-story houses are also in the area. They’re not all older homes. There are also small pockets of homes from the 1990s.

Bus or light rail
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, or RTA, has bus service on Broadway Avenue and 55th Street. 55th Street to the north is the RTA light rail station site. “This area is known for the Opportunity Corridor. The road connects directly to the highway and serves under-served areas of Cleveland. There has been noticeable growth and development,” Thomas says.
