Eccentric Cleveland enclave

Tremont is an artsy Cleveland enclave on the city’s near-west side. Many have already gotten a glimpse into this quirky community, as it’s the site of the home in the 80s holiday flick, A Christmas Story, which is now a museum. Positioned a couple of miles outside the city and along the interstate, Tremont locals have easy access to downtown Cleveland. The neighborhood feels residential, though cafes, art galleries and vintage shops fill many of the refurbished properties. Tremont’s allure is in its eccentricity – its historic architecture, boutique shops and award-winning restaurants cultivate a dynamic mixture of old and new, drawing crowds of Clevelanders with character at the top of their homebuying list. “It’s a vibrant community that’s captured the hearts of many buyers,” says Paul Ruksenas, Realtor at Platinum Real Estate and long-time citywide seller. "It's an attractive location to people looking for a distinctive and welcoming place to call home."

Eateries with edge

Everything has a little edge in Tremont, from the historic remodels to the kitschy shops and bookstores, establishing a laid-back, come-as-you-are vibe. It’s a hub for some of the city’s trendiest eateries, ranging from refined home-cooked breakfast at Martha on the Fly to the divey dishes and drinks at the beloved Prosperity Social Club. Locals browse art galleries by day and listen to live music by night. CODA is one of the neighborhood’s go-to venues, where crowds jam through the weekend at open mic acts and busy shows featuring edgy local bands. Artists and culinarians come to Tremont in troves, seeking live-work spaces at accessible price points, building on a strong entrepreneurial framework. When they’re not browsing the local shops and galleries, Tremont locals head to West Side Market for weekly grocery shops and continue downtown for other errands.

Party at Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is the beating heart of Tremont, a central outdoor gathering space hosting many of the neighborhood’s most coveted community events. It’s often full of dogwalkers passing under the 30-foot maples that hedge the park’s perimeter. Tuesday afternoons are busy at Lincoln Park, when the neighborhood meets for the seasonal farmers market, packed with merchants selling piles of produce while live music echoes through the square. The Towpath Trail is another Tremont hot spot, hosting bikers for breezy rides to Lake Erie and beyond.

Tremont homeowners can keep busy year-round with a full calendar of community events, including Walkabout Tremont, a monthly art walk going 30 years strong. Foodies flock to the Polish and Greek festivals and bond over bites at the annual Taste of Tremont in July, before gathering at Lincoln Park for Arts in August dance performances. The Brite Winter music and art festival is a hit with the creatives, and the popular Tremont Trek takes the neighborhood through a guided home tour, each historic spot providing provisions from a different local restaurant. Commuter-friendly community

"The area has experienced steady growth due to the proximity to downtown," Ruksenas says. Lots of locals opt to get around on foot or cycle in Tremont, taking the quiet, sidewalk-lined streets from place to place. For longer trips, most Tremont homeowners take the car, but commuters can also walk to the subway station or catch an RTA bus to get around. Tremont residents can see a Browns, Guardians or Cavaliers game, a production at Playhouse Square, or visit the Great Lakes Science Center within about 15 minutes. The community sits in the crook of Interstate 90 and 490, providing easy access to downtown Cleveland and beyond.
