Outdoor activity abounds in Sanders Beach
On the north shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene, just east of Downtown Coeur d'Alene, Sanders Beach is a quiet neighborhood full of outdoor recreation. "On the west side, you have Tubbs Hill, where you can enjoy a 45-minute lakeside stroll. On the east side you have the world-renowned Floating Green on the Coeur d'Alene Golf Course," says Jason Walker with the Jason Walker Team at Keller Williams Coeur d'Alene. "If we're ever traveling and we say we're from Coeur d'Alene, people say, 'Oh, that's the golf course.'" While those two aspects are big draws to the community, the neighborhood's namesake steals the show. Sanders Beach is a public strip of sandy shoreline offering plenty of room for swimming, sunbathing or paddling in the scenic lake.

City parks to relax on the beach or hike through the forest
Water sports are the main activity in Sanders Beach during the summer, whether it's relaxing on the beach or setting off for a paddle around the lake. The section of shoreline between 12th Street and 15th Street is privately owned by homeowners, leaving two public access points on either side of this strip. The public beach on the west side features mature trees, offering a shady spot to relax by the water. The east beach is more open, making it ideal for beachgoers looking to catch some rays. Residents should plan on heading to the beach early, as it fills up on warm summer days. Tubbs Hill is a 165-acre natural area just west of the neighborhood, with a trailhead on 10th Street. This park features several hiking trails, including a 2-mile trail that follows the park's perimeter and takes hikers along the jagged shoreline. The high cliffs on the west side of Tubbs Hill are frequently full of thrill seekers jumping into the lake on summer evenings. The 23-mile North Idaho Centennial Trail passes through the neighborhood on Mullan Avenue, offering a trail for running, walking or biking through the city.
Adjacent to Sanders Beach, Tubbs Hill is a natural area with scenic trails and overlooks.
With easy access to both natural areas and the lively downtown, residents enjoy both options.

Resort-style amenities in a residential neighborhood
The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course is just east of Sanders Beach and is known for its Floating Green on the 14th hole. The 2,200-ton green can change position thanks to an underwater cable system and is typically between 140 and 170 yards from the tee. A small boat known as Putter ferries golfers to and from the green. While the 14th hole is the most famous, the entire par-71 course is a challenging and memorable experience that features lake views from nearly every hole. While lake activities like boating are popular in the neighborhood, private docks are not allowed in the area. “There are no docks allowed, so it’s preserved the eclectic feel, which can also be a detriment if you want a dock. There is a private marina where you can buy a boat slip. It’s called the 11th Street Marina. So a lot of people down there will just buy a boat slip,” says Walker.
Coeur d’Alene is home to the world-famous Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.
