College Station's bustling entertainment district

College Station’s Northgate District sits right across from the historic Texas A&M University and is widely known and loved as the entertainment district of the college town. The neighborhood is home to several high-rise student housing buildings and an assortment of locally owned and loved restaurants, bars and nightclubs. “Northgate is a happening place,” says David Shellenberger, a broker associate with The Shellenberger Team who has lived in the College Station area for over 30 years. “When there’s games going on, there’s thousands of students walking around there.”

Local spots along University Drive

Northgate is home to much of College Station’s nightlife, with bars and restaurants lined along University Drive. Locals and visitors head to Dixie Chicken, a staple in the area, for a pint of their favorite beer while enjoying a greasy burger or other menu favorites, including a chicken fried steak sandwich and cheese fries. Chimy’s is a popular happy hour spot, offering tasty margaritas and Tex-Mex fare. There are plenty of options for a fun night out after a good meal. Hurricane Harry’s has live music throughout the week, while Four Downs is a great place to watch the Aggies play.

Local farmers market and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library

Even when school isn’t in session, College Station is buzzing with things to do, whether it’s a live concert or annual holiday celebrations. Local farmers and artisans sell their best products at the yearly Homegrown at Northgate farmers market. The neighborhood is a few miles from the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, which has exhibits honoring the former president as well as events like moderated talks and the summer film series.

Student housing and more home options

Most of the housing options in Northgate are high-rise apartment buildings and condominiums, many of which are student housing. However, there are small residential pockets in the area. These quiet residential streets are lined with ranch homes that have sold between $280,000 and $440,000 and traditional homes that have sold for between $300,000 and $675,000.

College Station ISD schools and Texas A&M

Before heading to Texas A&M University to become an Aggie, students in the Northgate area will likely start their education at River Bend Elementary School, which has earned an A grade on Niche. Kids will then attend Cypress Grove Intermediate School, which has an A-minus grade, until sixth grade, followed by A-plus rated Wellborn Middle School. A&M Consolidated High School also has an A-plus Niche grade, boasting various clubs and organizations for its student body of over 1,700 including National Honor Society and the Bengal Belles drill team.

Easy traveling around College Station

A&M students can get to and from campus using the AggieSpirit bus along College Main Street. Frequent flyers are only 3 miles from Easterwood Airport, which flies to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
