Woodfield offers Capital City amenities from a distance
Located on the northeast side, Woodfield is an expanding neighborhood flanked not only by lakes and large plots of green space but also by several shopping districts and a diverse range of restaurants. "You might have to drive a little farther than you would in a bigger city," says Rachel Shealey, a Realtor at 803 Realty and longtime resident. "But you trade it in for a much slower-paced lifestyle and a lot more nature, which really adds to why people love it here." Columbia's cost of living and housing is already low compared to the national average, and Woodfield offers some of the lowest prices in the Capital City. Columbia provides ample tax breaks for veterans and for those 65 years of age or older. Between the area's lower property taxes and prices, Woodfield offers the best bang for your buck, and investors are starting to notice, says Kathy Cobbs, a Realtor with Keller Williams Palmetto since 2020. While there aren't many jobs around the neighborhood, there are work opportunities within a short commute. Woodfield is 8 miles from downtown and the University of South Carolina and roughly 19 miles south of multiple industrial areas. In addition to its prime location, which is only a short drive to Myrtle Beach and Asheville, and its charming college-town community, the area's public school system is well-regarded with an array of career-oriented extracurricular programs. It is also considered one of the best districts for athletes in the state.

Woodfield homes offer affordability compared to nearby Arcadia Lakes
A collection of homes, primarily built in the 1960s and '70s, punctuate the neighborhood's quiet streets. Two small lakes sit within Woodfield, providing waterfront options for buyers looking to relocate. Ranch-style and split-level homes on quarter- to half-acre lots are shaded by a canopy of linden, oak and pine trees. Larger homes are rare and often include Greek Revivals, colonials and Craftsman styles. Driveways sit alongside many properties in the neighborhood, but the streets are wide enough for on-street parking. Prices typically range from $160,000 to $250,000, making Woodfield more affordable than neighboring areas like Arcadia Lakes and Wildewood, where prices can climb from $500,000 to $1 million. Homes remain on the market for a little over 35 days.

The Richland School District offers an array of magnet programs
Students in the Richland School District may attend one of three public elementary schools: Windsor, Jackson Creek or L.W. Conder. The elementary schools are graded with C-plus, B-minus and C-plus Niche scores, respectively. L.W. Conder has a C-plus Niche score and is an arts integration magnet school within walking distance for many. The elementary school allows kindergarten through fifth-grade students to learn from professional artists and participate in weekly specialized arts clubs. Students later filter into Dent or E.L. Wright Middle schools, earning B and B-plus from Niche, respectively. The latter provides several magnet options, including language immersion and a leadership academy. Richland Northeast High School has a B from Niche, as well. Students can apply for the 'Horizon' magnet program, which offers global learning opportunities. It is also known for its convergence media magnet program focusing on journalism and a robust arts and theatre curriculum. Higher education is also readily available to those in Woodfield, as the University of South Carolina is only 8 miles southwest.

Woodfield is close to multiple private lakes and an expansive state park
The 1,400-acre Sesquicentennial State Park is roughly 5 miles away. Known to locals as Sesqui, the large natural area showcases an array of foliage and outdoor recreation opportunities. At the park's center is a 30-acre lake perfect for fishing, kayaking or canoeing. Bikers and hikers often frequent the shaded 6-mile loop of trail. The path is highlighted by small waterfalls and creeks woven throughout the massive green space. Kids can enjoy exploring the park's multiple playgrounds and splash pad. "So many of the trails are paved, and they'll often go over a few scenic bridges," Cobb says. Residents can also take advantage of the scenic views of the Congaree and Saluda rivers. Recent developments have provided a safer route for pedestrians that stretches from USC to the Riverfront and Riverwalk parks.

Close to Trenholm Plaza, Two Notch Road and Decker Boulevard
As the neighborhood sits off Interstates 20 and 77, many restaurants are within reach. "One of the things I love most about Columbia is all of the options you have to eat locally," Cobb says. "We've all had enough of the outback steakhouses, and the food scene here is great in general." There's usually a long line to get into Tacos Nayarit, known for its birria tacos. Colorful murals, eclectic furniture and a patio decorated with string lights add to the restaurant's fun vibe. Little Pigs BBQ serves up the most popular Southern cooking in the area, including ribs, pork chops and fried chicken. A Food Lion sits at the neighborhood's western end when you need to pick up grocery essentials. By hopping on I-77, locals can quickly visit the amenity-rich Forest Acres area, home to a plethora of shopping and dining options. National and local retailers sit within Trenholm Plaza, including Bath and Body Works, Home Goods and Scout & Molly's Boutique. Tazza Kitchen and the Original Pancake House are two of the more popular local restaurants. The Comedy House is a few miles down Decker Boulevard near Food Lion. The venue is well-known for its stand-up acts and celebrity-themed cabaret.

Soda City draws Woodfield residents downtown
The most well-known event in Columbia is arguably Soda City. "Soda City is huge here," Shealey says. "It's every Saturday and super dog-friendly. They shut down Main Street and line it with local vendors." It's located across from the Columbia Museum of Art and just a few blocks from EdVenture, one of the country's top children's museums. The Vista, a historic market beloved for its expansive art scene, isn't far away either. "It's a great place for a date night since you can park and walk around," Cobb adds. Its cobblestone streets lead to several art galleries and performance centers. "I really enjoy the Columbia City Ballet, and then you have Broadway performances at the Koger Center for the Arts, too."
