Longstanding suburb offering opportunity in MidTown
Between the iconic Aflac tower and MidTown’s scenic Lakebottom Park is Wynnton Village, one of the city's historic streetcar suburbs. With its restored midcentury homes, local landmarks and popular events, the neighborhood represents Columbus' past, present and future. "There are some beautiful homes here that just need the right touch to bring them back to life," says Realtor Mia Manns with Coldwell Banker and Kennon, Parker, Duncan & Davis. Manns has over 14 years of experience selling real estate in the area. "The community is really looking for that younger energy to bring it back to what it once was." And that energy can be seen in the investors renovating homes and community events like the annual MidTown Mingle, which Manns notes highlights and supports local businesses and restaurants. The community has a stronghold of supporters pushing for Wynnton Village and the rest of MidTown to be celebrated and invested in.

Midcentury homes with budget friendly prices
One of MidTown's historic communities, Wynnton Village's early and mid-20th century homes stand out underneath canopies of oak and pine. Craftsman bungalows with deep-set porches sit across from shingle-style cottages with screened-in porches, while Neoclassical-inspired ranch-style homes with Greek columns and Cape Cods are next door to Tudor-inspired bungalows. As homes come onto the market, interior renovations are common, but there are also homes awaiting a personal touch. A benefit of buying in Wynnton is its pricing, according to Realtor David Hickox, a Keller Williams River Cities agent with nearly a decade of experience. "Wynnton is close to other historic districts like Saint Elmo and offers the same kind of beautiful homes but is slightly more budget-friendly. Homes are priced about $100,000 to $200,000 less than surrounding areas," Hickox says. Prices in Wynnton Village range between $150,000 to $200,000 for smaller cottages or homes needing a bit of updating. Larger, renovated bungalows typically list between $200,000 and $300,000.

Close to the events at Lakebottom Park
Wynnton Village sits at the southern end of Lakebottom Park, the site of many MidTown activities. One of Columbus's oldest outdoor spaces, the park has trails, shaded picnic areas, pickleball courts, a running track and a playground. The Peach Little League also holds its games at Lakebottom. "My fiancé and I walk our dog at the park almost daily," says Taylor Kiel, a sales associate at Park Place Interiors in nearby Saint Elmo Shopping Center. "There are a ton of events at Lakebottom, too. We try to go to as many of those as possible." A few popular events at the park include the annual Lakebottom Park 5K and the MidTown Get Down, a family-friendly concert with activities and food vendors. Wynnton Village is also close to Little Wildwood Park, a small, shaded green space popular with pet owners. Dinglewood Park is a favorite for fans of disc golf, featuring a nine-hole course along Weracoba Creek.

Wynnton Road, which turns into Macon Road just a few blocks to the east, lines the neighborhood's southern edge and offers more retail. Residents can procure fresh local produce at Napier's MidTown Market. Wynnton Road then turns into Macon Road, which is home to Midtown Shopping Center and Cross Country Plaza. Residents will find grocery stores like Publix and Aldi and big box stores like Ross and Burlington. Peachtree Mall is just 4 miles away. Wynnton Village is also home to Dinglewood Pharmacy. Since 1918, the pharmacy has been famous for its lunch counter and soda fountain, which serves old-school treats like sundaes, malts and its signature dish, the scrambled dog. This Columbus staple is two hotdogs sliced on a bun and topped with chili, cheese, oyster crackers, onions and pickles. It would be hard to talk about Dinglewood without mentioning "The Lieutenant." Lieutenant Charles Stevens served generations of patrons at the lunch counter, and his friendly face is commemorated around the pharmacy in pictures and artwork. "We miss him dearly," says Kellie Hurley Oliver, whose father is the second owner of Dinglewood Pharmacy. Hurley Oliver also lives nearby and notes the new energy coming to MidTown. "I like living here—there's been a lot of effort to liven it back up, especially since the pandemic," Hurley Oliver says. "The MidTown Mingle and the Sip and Shop are a couple of events that bring us all together. It's a really welcoming, supportive place to live or own a business."
