A neighborhood of neighborhoods
At 7 square miles, Clintonville stands out as one of the largest neighborhoods in Columbus, with an assortment of housing styles to match. “It’s a neighborhood of neighborhoods,” says Joe Jackson, Keller Williams Capital Partners Realtor and 12-year Clintonville resident. “It used to be nothing but farms, and then in the early 1900s, it started getting slowly built up. Now it’s a bedroom community with everything from beautiful historic homes to suburban ranches and split-levels.”
Architectural variety, proximity to downtown and an extensive park system have attracted people to the neighborhood over the years, and now a new generation of residents are staking their claim. “One of the big things that we’ve been seeing is that more and more young families and young professionals go away for school or work, and then they come back to make a home in Clintonville,” says Sue Lusk-Gleich, a Realtor with Keller Williams Capital Partners.
Clintonville is a tight-knit community with many homes in close proximity of one another.
Whetstone Park is a 149-acre regional park in the Clintonville community.

Historic homes on North Broadway Street
Though apartments and other examples of multi-family homes are common in the area, over two-thirds of residents own their homes, with many living there for multiple generations. The southern section of the neighborhood is where some of the original construction occurred in the early 20th century, including the historic homes that line North Broadway Street. Dutch colonial, American Foursquare and Tudor homes are available with covered porches and small, sloped yards. People walk through the neighborhood on its narrow, well-kept sidewalks, and residents mostly park on the street. The atmosphere is more suburban further north, with ranch-style and Cape Cod houses on half- and quarter-acre lots, often with driveways and garages. Newer homes start in the mid-$200,000s before reaching the mid-$500,000s as square footage increases and renovations become more common. The largest homes peak in the high $800,000s and have more foliage and privacy.
Clintonville is well known for it's historic homes.

A variety of public and private schools
“Between the public and the private, there are plenty of school choices in this area,” says Lusk-Gleich. “A lot of kids go to the Catholic school system—it’s a very popular choice here.” In the public sector, students in the northern section of the area attend Indian Springs Elementary, which has a C-plus on Niche. At the same time, students in the south attend Clinton Elementary, which has a B. From there, they’ll enroll at Dominion Middle School, which has a C, before heading to Whetstone High School, which has a C-plus and was recognized for its musical theatre department by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts in 2024.
Nearby private schools enroll every grade level, including the A-rated Clintonville Academy and Bishop Watterson High School, which has a B-plus. Columbus is also home to Ohio State University, which is ranked first among Ohio's public universities by "U.S. News and World Report." Students there choose from over 200 undergraduate majors and 12,000 courses.
Test scores at Clinton Elementary School are above average for Ohio.

Local favorite pizza at Gatto's
Gatto’s has been serving pizza, pasta and house-made Italian sausage since 1952, becoming a neighborhood favorite. “That place is iconic,” says Lusk-Gleich. “Everyone goes there.” With its long bar and jukebox filled with classic rock, O’Reilly’s Pub has a classic watering hole atmosphere. Their menu has a no-frills selection of tavern favorites, including wings, nachos and their pepper burger, which includes a half-pound burger with black pepper crust topped with bacon and provolone.
The Graceland Shopping Center has retail and grocery options, including Ulta, Homegoods and Kroger Marketplace. Locally-owned businesses line High Street, including diners, clothiers and game stores.
