A quiet suburb along Roberts Road
Like a picture of a classic suburb, Hilliard Green has large lots of green grass, wide streets and sidewalks on either side of the road. “It’s quiet and a slow market. People don’t tend to move out a lot,” says Thomas Hamrick, a Realtor with Kellers William Consultants Realty who grew up in the area. “Lots of people will be walking their dogs down the road, but it does kind of back up to a lot of warehouses.” With these warehouses and a semi-active railyard nearby, some train noise can be expected. Contemporary split-level houses and Foursquares with add-on garages make up most homes in the area. Many have three to four bedrooms and up to 2,000 square feet. Prices range from $300,000 to $425,000. A condo complex on the western side of the suburb features brick units for under $300,000.

A playground and paved trail at Hilliard Green Park
The neighborhood doesn’t have many green spaces, given its proximity to so many commercial buildings and retailers. Still, Hilliard Green Park offers a playground and open field where kids can play on 17 acres — a paved track circles the park, attracting runners. A small, wooded area also provides some shade on hotter days. Locals should note that Ohio does deal with inclement weather in the form of tornadoes, and it tests its early detection system every Wednesday by activating a siren.

Shopping and dining on Hilliard Rome Road
Along Hilliard Rome Road, the large shopping plaza Hilliard Rome Commons is made up of big-box stores like Walmart and Target, clothing retailers like Marshalls and craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels, which are surrounded by fast-food chains. “I remember when they first paved that road years ago and built the Walmart Supercenter,” Hamrick says. “Now it pretty much has everything.” The regionally beloved Skyline Chili has a location here, one of only six within the Columbus area. Coffee franchises like Tim Hortons and Michigan-based Biggby Coffee also have outlets, and groceries can be found at Aldi or Meijer.
