The Pine Hills neighborhood was formed at the intersection of I-70 and I-270.
A neighborhood developed around two interstates
As interstates developed around Colombus in the 1960s and ‘70s, neighborhoods formed where new roads opened the area. That’s how Pine Hills developed — at the intersection of interstates 70 and 270, creating one of the first East Side neighborhoods, according to Realtor Cephas Pearson with Key Realty. Today, the neighborhood attracts homebuyers who want to get into the real estate market with either a single-family home or townhouse. "Pine Hills is a great place for first-time homebuyers," says Realtor Byron Diaz, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Nexthome Experience. "It's an underrated neighborhood, and as Columbus inventory gets more limited, I think people are going to appreciate Pine Hills more."
Single-family homes and townhouses from the 1950s through '80s
Pine Hills' homes reflect the era when the highways were constructed. "Most of the homes there were built in the 1950s and '60s," Pearson says. The architectural styles are typical of the time, including ranch-style homes, some with full basements, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and over 1,000 square feet of space. Bi-levels from the early 1960s have two-and-a-half-car detached garages, finished basements, balconies and patios. Prices for single-family homes range from $200,000 to $300,000. Brick townhouses on the neighborhood's north end are priced from $130,000 to $170,000. Single-story, multi-family homes on the neighborhood's south end range from $200,000 to $240,000. Several apartment complexes are located along the neighborhood's north and south ends.
Split level homes are common in the Pine Hills Neighborhood.
