A neighborhood rife with industrial space
Vassor Village is an architectural artifact of the early 20th century. Residents live within walking distance of local and chain restaurants. The neighborhood’s location in relation to other neighborhoods also makes it a draw. “The neighborhood is just a little bit south of German Village and Merion Village, but prices are better,” says Realtor Don Payne, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Vision Realty. Commuters appreciate being within 3-½ miles of Downtown Columbus. Residents can also walk to the neighborhood’s community center and swimming pool. “Vassor Village combines affordability, historic character, and community amenities, which makes it an appealing choice for homebuyers,” says Realtor Remington Lyman, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Reafco. Vassor Village is primarily industrial. It includes businesses like ITC Manufacturing, Cinco Electronic Recycling, Salinas Granite and Consolidated Container Group.

Getting around Columbus
Central Ohio Transit Authority, or COTA, buses run along Parsons and Frebis avenues with multiple stops. People travel 8 miles northeast to John Glenn Columbus International Airport via Interstate 670. The sidewalk-lined streets allow residents to walk to dining establishments on Parsons Avenue. Downtown Columbus is 3 miles north of Vassor Village via Parsons Avenue and U.S. Route 33.
Local festivals and college football
Residents travel 2 miles north to German Village for its annual Oktoberfest. The three-day event includes concessions, live music, strongman competitions and a crafts marketplace. People travel a mile northwest each August for the Merion Village Festival, which hosts arts and crafts vendors, live music and a beer garden. The Buckeyes face off against other Big Ten Conference college football teams at Ohio Stadium, 10 miles north of Vassor Village. Downtown entertainment options include the Columbus Museum of Art as well as Nationwide Arena. The arena features musical acts like Justin Timberlake and Jelly Roll.
Columbus Museum of Art in Downtown Columbus is less than 10 minutes away from Vassor Village.

Lincoln Park and Barack Community Center
Lincoln Park on Woodrow Avenue has a playground with colorful climbing equipment and slides. There’s also a basketball court and picnic tables. Beyond the basketball court, a paved walkway encircles the greenspace. Barack Community Center is a valuable element of the neighborhood. The indoor facility has a gym and meeting spaces. Locals often take fitness and art classes at the center. The Columbus Symphony has performed in the center’s auditorium. The Lincoln Swimming Pool is next door to the community center. The pool features a double water slide, diving boards, a toddler area and competitive swimming lanes.

Local restaurants and Ohio-based chains
Multiple restaurants are along Parsons Avenue. Shrimp Lips serves fried catfish, steamed shrimp and snow crab clusters with sides of greens. The restaurants only does takeout. Residents order hamburgers and hot dogs at Rally’s, a 1950s-style fast food chain based in Ohio. Tee Jaye’s Country Place is another Ohio-based fast-food chain in the area. It has served steak dinners and sandwich platters for over 50 years. On South Champion Avenue, Lady Nay’s Caribbean and Soul serves jerk and curry chicken. People travel half a mile west to shop at Kroger.
Shrimp Lips Seafood and Chicken Restaurant is a great take-out place located on Parsons Avenue.
Tee Jaye's Country Place Restaurant in Vassor Village is a neighborhood favorite.

Early 20th-century housing
“The most common home in this neighborhood has two stories, two bedrooms and one bathroom,” says Realtor Kelly Coate, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Coldwell Banker Realty. “Most of the homes were built in the 1920s and ‘30s.” Architectural styles include American Foursquares and Craftsmen. “It’s difficult to tell the floor of the price range because it’s hard to buy a home that needs a lot of work for less than $100,000 these days,” Coates says. Some renovated houses can sell for as high as $250,000.
Craftsman homes can be found on many streets of Vassor Village.
Most of the homes in Vassor Village were built in the 1920s and ‘30s.

Public schools near Vassor Village
Children can walk to Lincoln Park Elementary, which has a 15-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Residents travel a mile north to South High School, which has a 72% graduation rate and serves grades seven through 12. The school was renovated in 2009. Both schools have C-minus Niche ratings.
Many students from Vassor Village attend South High School located located in Olde Towne East.
Lincoln Park Elementary School in Vassor Village serves the children in grades PK, K-5.
