Suburban, urban and rural living
The northwest corner of Comstock Township offers a mix of suburban, urban and rural living. “I think it comes down to convenience and location,” says Paul McIntyre, owner of Five Star Real Estate. “It has a great park system, it’s only about 10 minutes from downtown Kalamazoo and there’s easy access to 94.”
Along with its convenient location, McIntyre says residents enjoy living in a community where they look out for one another. The Comstock Community Neighborhood Watch Facebook page was created to post about suspicious activity but has quickly become a catchall. If someone needs recommendations for food pantries or other forms of public assistance, comments will flood with support and well wishes. And posts about everything in between, from yard sales to missing pets, will always make it to the page so that neighbors can look out for neighbors. “It’s a friendly community, there’s a good community spirit,” says McIntyre. “The neighbors help each other out.”

Recreation in every direction
Comstock Northwest is surrounded by parks, preserves and golf courses. The 32-and-a-half-acre Robert Morris Park is east of the neighborhood and is home to Campbell Lake. Swimming, fishing and disc golf are especially popular around Memorial Day weekend. A walk through McLinden Nature Trails can be as short or long as one desires. The official trail is about 2 miles long, but secondary routes throughout the 300-acre wooded area can easily turn a 30-minute trek into a several-hour-long get-away. Nature preserves, like Chipman Preserve, are green retreats in residents’ backyards. Eastern Hills Golf Course is to the north of the neighborhood and offers 27 holes across 220 acres.
The Comstock Community Center offers year-round recreation for every age group. Line dancing, poker and cardio drumming are just a few regular activities adults can partake in to make new connections and perfect new skills. For kids, activities range from crafts to summer camp. The center also hosts year-round field trips including visits to Detroit to see the Tigers play.

Comstock Northwest is a driver-centric community. Like the rest of Comstock Township, there are few sidewalks and no bike lanes so most residents own at least one car. Main roads like Gull and Main are used to get into downtown Kalamazoo, while Interstate 94 is about 12 miles south of the neighborhood and is used for longer communities.
