Mountain living with suburban amenities
Conifer Mountain and Meadows scratches the itch for those yearning to stretch out a bit more than life in Denver allows. Situated at elevations ranging from 8,000 to 9,500 feet, the neighborhood features spacious homes on large lots. “It’s a very popular area because you can find your two-acre lots with all the privacy you could want,” says Dania Guth, real estate agent at Keller Williams Foothills Realty and neighborhood resident for 29 years. “But at the same time, it’s still close enough to the suburbs that you have county-maintained roads – it’s a nice compromise between wanting that mountain lifestyle without having to break your back shoveling snow off the road.”
Homes with mountain charm and spacious lots
Housing styles vary from mountain contemporary to log cabin-inspired homes as well as traditional designs. Prices range from $500,000 to over $1 million. Properties often include large decks, expansive windows and open floor plans. Life in the mountains affords homeowners more space, and most homes sit on at least two acres – and often, much more. “It’s not as rural as somewhere like Deer Creek, but it still has that charm to it,” says Guth. “It’s a nice mix of rural atmosphere with a more neighborly, suburban attitude.”
Staunton State Park features over 3,800 acres of natural beauty
Staunton State Park, located about ten miles southwest, offers hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and fishing across its 3,800 acres. “I’m at Staunton Park at least once a week, but during the summer, I hit the trails at all the nearby state parks,” says Guth. “Twenty-nine dollars gets you a pass to all the parks, and you can hike all summer without hiking the same trail twice.” Meyer Ranch Park, to the northeast, provides trails for hiking and cross-country skiing amid aspen groves and meadows. Reynolds Park and the Pike National Forest expand the options for outdoor activities, including wildlife viewing and camping.
Seclusion doesn't mean giving up shopping and dining
While Conifer Mountain and Meadows offer a secluded mountain setting, residents can shop and dine within a short drive. The Conifer Town Center and Aspen Park Village Shopping Center, a little more than 6 miles away, provide grocery stores such as King Soopers and Safeway and various other retail stops. Brooks Place Tavern is known for its craft beers and pub fare, and The Well at Bradford Junction features American cuisine in a historic location. 3 Margaritas is another popular spot, serving classic Mexican cuisine and cocktails.
Get to Denver and the DTC easily thanks to U.S. 285
U.S. Highway 285 gives residents a straightforward commute to Denver. The drive to downtown is approximately 30 miles and “takes about 45 minutes to an hour,” according to Guth. “It’s close enough that getting to the Denver Tech Center is pretty easy – plus, the mountain views really seem to tame road rage,” says Guth. “It’s also a really popular place for people who work from home, though – again, it’s part of that secluded feel that people like the area for.”
UC Health Highlands Ranch is the closest hospital and is more than 30 miles away.
Conifer High program prepares students for futures in tech and engineering
Students can begin by attending Elk Creek Elementary School, which holds a B rating on Niche. Students can progress to B-rated West Jefferson Middle School before finishing at B-plus-rated Conifer High School. Conifer High features a Pre-Engineering Academy that offers engineering, robotics, and technology courses. More than five feet of snow falls here annually and while that affects day-to-day, the school system is well-prepared for it. “Much to the students' chagrin, snow days are really quite rare – they know how to get the roads cleared very quickly,” says Guth. That being said, residents often equip their vehicles for wintry conditions.
Wildfire concerns
The area has an inherent risk for wildfires, with the nearby Deer Creek Canyon Park suffering from just such an event in August 2024. “Residents need to be vigilant about clearing up brush that leads to their houses,” says Guth. “We have to clear up trees that get a little too close to the house, too.”
