Elevated mountain living with breathtaking vistas
Perched atop Doublehead Mountain between Conifer and Morrison, Colorado, the Doubleheader neighborhood offers residents a unique blend of seclusion and accessibility. At elevations reaching near 9,000 feet, the community provides panoramic views of the Denver skyline to the east and the Continental Divide to the west. The serene mountain setting allows residents to experience the tranquility of the Rockies while remaining within 30 miles of downtown Denver. “It’s got the tremendous quality of life that comes with living in the foothills – you have the elbow room that comes with being a little bit farther out, but it’s still really neighborly,” says Jackie White, Realtor with Your Castle Real Estate and longtime resident of the area. “When people envision living in Colorado – the active lifestyle, the mountains and all that – Doubleheader is the kind of place they think of.”
Outdoor recreation in every direction
The neighborhood offers hiking and mountain biking trails and plenty of opportunities to observe local wildlife like deer, elk, and foxes. Nearby Meyer Ranch Park provides additional trails amid aspen groves and wildflower meadows. Staunton State Park, about 10 miles away, offers over 3,800 acres for hiking, rock climbing, and fishing. Life in the foothills means residents can partake in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during winter without venturing far out of their doorstep. Also in the neighborhood is the Compassionate Dharma Cloud Monastery. The site includes a Buddhist temple, meditation hall and gardens and is open to the public.
Custom homes amid natural beauty
Homes in Doubleheader are often custom-built or feature craftsman accents, highlighting the “mountain contemporary” aesthetic that sets the neighborhood apart from the suburbs and more urban areas nearby. While single-story ranch-style homes are available, most of the housing stock is comprised of larger two-story builds – with many featuring open floor plans, expansive decks and large windows that maximize the mountain views. Lot sizes typically span one to five acres. “It has a more rural feel to it than some places nearby, and that’s definitely part of the appeal,” says White. “But I wouldn’t call it remote – you can still get to Denver within a half hour or so of walking out your front door.” Home prices generally start at around $650,000 for a ranch-style home and reach up to over $1.5 million for larger, mountain contemporary estates.
Essential amenities within reach
While Doubleheader offers a secluded mountain lifestyle, essential shopping and dining options are a short drive away in Conifer and Morrison. The Aspen Park and Conifer Town Center shopping areas provide grocery stores like King Soopers and Safeway, as well as Target and other retail stores. Dining options include Brooks Place Tavern, known for its craft beers and pub fare, and JJ Madwell's, offering pizza and Italian dishes. In nearby Morrison, residents can explore boutique shops and dine at establishments like The Fort Restaurant, which serves southwestern cuisine in a historic adobe building.
Jefferson County schools serve the neighborhood
Students can begin at West Jefferson Elementary School, which earns a B rating from Niche. From there, students can attend fellow B-rated West Jefferson Middle School before finishing up at B-plus-rated Conifer High School. Students at Conifer High can take advantage of the abundance of natural beauty nearby, with the environmental studies program being just one of many that offer hands-on learning experiences in the surrounding foothills and ranges.
Get to Denver in less than an hour
U.S. Highway 285 runs through Doubleheader and connects residents to Denver and other Front Range communities. The drive to downtown Denver typically takes about 40 minutes, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Public transportation is limited compared to the less-mountainous suburbs nearby. Denver International Airport sits just over 50 miles away. Residents should be prepared for mountain driving conditions, especially during winter when snow and ice can affect roadways. While the county still maintains certain roads in the neighborhood, other roads are private and require residents to maintain it themselves.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.
