Easy access meets mountaintop seclusion
The Green Valley allows residents to stretch out along the wide-open flatlands of the Rocky Mountain Valley area west of Denver. With large lot sizes and an old-school aesthetic that exudes a countryside atmosphere the neighborhood provides a sense of seclusion. Yet, despite its scenic setting, it is only 30 miles to everything the Denver metropolitan area offers. “Even amongst other neighborhoods in the area, Green Valley is super convenient,” says Lynn Westfall, associate broker with RE/MAX and longtime resident of the area. “It’s right off the highway and people can be back down the hill in no time.”
Live amongst the trees and wildlife
Herds of deer and elk can be spotted ambling through backyards during the mornings. Nearby, Beaver Ranch Park is home to a number of trails, zip lines and a disc golf course. “You can make an entire weekend out of what’s available to do at Beaver Ranch,” says Westfall. Staunton State Park has over 30 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, and features dramatic views of rock outcroppings and waterfalls. Meyer Ranch Park is a popular spot for cross-country skiing.
Class mountain architecture meets contemporary style
Home styles in Green Valley range from vintage A-frame cabins to sprawling mountain contemporary estates, with ranch styles and traditional multi-level homes also available. Cabins can start as low as $350,000, while ranch-style and multi-level homes typically range from $485,000 to $700,000. Prices for custom mountain contemporary homes start at just over $1 million and commonly reach as high as $1.8 million, though some particularly grand examples can sell for as high as $2.5 million. “It has that old-school neighborhood feel to it,” says Westfall. “Even with it being closer to the highway, it still feels like its own little community – and even with the extra space and privacy – you still have a really neighborly place full of people of all ages and generations.”
Local events bring small-town charm
The Conifer Historical Society and Museum is an active community organization that aims to educate locals on the part Green Valley played in the U.S. westward expansion. The group maintains several historical buildings, including a farmhouse and a schoolhouse. The Conifer Chamber of Commerce hosts the Elevation Celebration, an event set along downtown Conifer that features live music, local artisans, food trucks, and a 5k run.
Get what you need without going down the hill
Retail and groceries can be found in nearby mountain communities or a quick trip to Denver. The Brooks Place Tavern, in Aspen Park, is a community staple, offering a classy sports bar atmosphere—complete with its own driving range. 3 Margaritas is popular for its authentic Mexican cuisine, while Oyama Sushi is the go-to spot for Japanese food in the area. “There’s not a ton of retail within the area, but you can always head to Evergreen or Denver for what you can’t find here – other than that, you’ve got what you need without going back down the hill.”
Conifer High offers high-tech courses
Students can begin at Elk Creek Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche. From there, students can move on to fellow B-rated West Jefferson Middle, before finishing up at Conifer High School. None of the schools are in the neighborhood but they are all within 5 to 10 miles. Conifer High earns a B-plus and is known for its Pre-Engineering Academy, which offers robotics and other similar style classes as electives. “The schools are one of the things people move to the area for,” says Westfall.
Easy access, despite the seclusion
U.S. Highway 285 is directly accessible via the neighborhood, making the area popular for those who commute. “For people who want to work in Denver but be somewhere completely different when they get home, this is a nice option,” says Westfall. Both the Denver Tech Center and UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital are about 30 miles away, while the Denver International Airport is approximately 55 miles from the neighborhood. Driving in the winter can be tricky as the area gets nearly 6 feet of snow a year.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
