Maplewood shares all the advantages of its Coral Springs address — quality schools, impressive parks and recreation, abundant shopping and expressway access — with one important difference. It has some of the most valuable real estate in the city. “Homes in Maplewood are very nice,” says Michelle Minikus, broker-owner of MMR Realty Associates PA. “They’re larger than most and are designed for homebuyers with the means to support a growing family.”

The most private and expensive homes in the neighborhood belong to a gated community named Maplewood Isle. Canals surround this subdivision, with only two roads going in, giving it an island shape. Built in the 1980s, the single-family homes in this community feature between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet of living space, five or more bedrooms, monthly HOA fees of $800 and a list price of $1 million or more. “These are spacious homes,” Minikus says, “some with huge family rooms and backyards and outdoor kitchens for entertaining.” Outside of Maplewood Isle, there are no other gated communities, and prices are lower. Ranch-style homes have on average 2,400 square feet, three to four bedrooms and no HOA costs. They list for between $500,000 and $900,000. Two- and three-bedroom condominiums are also available with up to 1,400 square feet and $400 HOA fees. They list for around $250,000 — the most moderate option in the neighborhood.

The schools that serve Maplewood Coral Springs all receive B grades or better from Niche. At Maplewood Elementary, fourth graders researched different types of robots and wrote opinion pieces on whether they are helpful or problematic to humans. Other schools that serve the neighborhood are Ramblewood Middle and J.P. Taravella High. Excelsior Arts Preparatory, one of several private schools in the area, scored an A from Niche, in part due to its low 10-to-1 student-teacher ratio, individualized learning plans and small class sizes.

Recreational areas are given high priority in Coral Springs, and Maplewood residents are within walking distance of several. Cypress Park, a huge 46-acre green space best known for its baseball fields and soccer fields, sits along Coral Springs Drive and features a water park with a unique clover-shaped swimming pool, a water slide, a splash pad and an interactive water playground. You’ll also find tennis and pickleball courts as well as a cypress hammock with walking trails that border a neighborhood lake. North of here, Dede Gilmore Memorial Park is much more compact (only 4 acres). Here, you can enjoy a game of tennis or horseshoes while the kids swing and have their fun on the jungle gym. A pavilion with picnic tables gives you a clear view of it all. To the east is Ralph Diaz Memorial Park, which features 8 acres of walking and jogging trails, as well as an outdoor gym with exercise stations. And if you enjoy radio-controlled racing, Richard D. Petrillo Park features 5 acres of grassy lawn and the Coral Springs RC Track, a facility designed for radio-controlled vehicles.

University Drive runs the length of Maplewood and is a prime destination for shopping and dining. Doris Italian Market & Bakery, for example, is well-known locally for its top-quality meats, farm-to-table fruits and vegetables, daily seafood offerings and authentic Italian American baked goods. A little farther down University is Big Bear Brewing Co., which opened its doors in 1997. This innovative brewery serves several craft beers and ciders and has an equally satisfying food selection — its burgers are ground fresh daily. At Atlantic Boulevard, you’ll see a Sam’s Club, a Whole Foods and a Home Depot, and on the opposite side of University is the Coral Square Mall. Anchored by a Macy’s, a JCPenney and a Kohl’s, the mall features more than 120 stores and eateries. If you travel west on Atlantic, you’ll reach the Sawgrass Expressway — ideal for commuters because it connects the neighborhood to West Palm Beach and Miami and points along the way.

If you’re ready for a neighborhood that fits your career and family outlook, provides innovative school choices and is located near exceptional recreation and all the necessities, think bigger — Maplewood Coral Springs may hold the key to your best home yet.
