The Three Mountains Natural Area and the Oriole Golf Club

Three Mountains Natural Area is a 21-acre green space along the Shanahan River where residents can walk, fish or hike its three “mountains” for scenic views of the neighborhood. These are actually hills left over after canals were dredged in the area. While most of the cityscape is flat, the 40- to 50-foot elevation from the hills is just high enough to provide a panoramic view. The park now features ficus and oak trees as well as a playground where children can slide, swing and climb. Another outdoor favorite to the northeast of the neighborhood is Oriole Golf Club. This semi-private course opened in 1971 and offers a par 72 track. The course also has a restaurant and lounge. Shadow Wood is about 3 miles from Cypress Park, one of the largest parks in the city, featuring multiple sports fields, a water park and basketball, tennis and pickleball courts.
