Home to majestic horses
The story of the Whispering Woods begins with land — lots of it — and horses. Spread over 275 acres, this Coral Springs neighborhood has sections that are gated and some that are not, but wherever homebuyers land, there is exceedingly little traffic, stunning lakes and sprawling palatial estates.
Multi-million dollar estates with plenty of land
In the Whispering Woods subdivision, from which the community gets its name, large ranch-style houses built in the 1980s line the neighborhood's central lake. These homes are built on an acre or less, many with lakefront views, and priced between $1 million and $1.7 million. Ungated communities, particularly those off Godfrey Road, have no HOAs, and residents are free to own horses and businesses. “About 40% of properties have horses in the area," says Melanie Schwartz, a Realtor with LoKation Real Estate, who loves horses and used to work in the neighborhood taking care of a resident’s horse. "There used to be more horse farms, but in recent decades, owners have opted to use their land to build luxury homes.” Properties with horse barns and pastures for riding often have their original ranch-style homes, now renovated and updated, while luxury homes, such as a spectacular English Tudor Castle estate in one listing, appeal to homebuyers looking for the wow factor. “My son and I used to marvel at the homes on Godfrey Road,” says Maria Montalbano, the listing agent on the Tudor house and a global advisor and top producer at One Sotheby’s International Realty. “Now I have buyers from Dubai and Switzerland purchasing homes here, sometimes sight unseen. Homes with this amount of land are highly sought after in Florida.” Many of these ungated single-family properties are 2 to 8 acres and list for as much as $2.5 million. Enclaves of more modest homes on smaller lots are available in the Hidden Hammock Estates community and priced between $650,000 and $850,000.
Access to top rated schools in Coral Springs
The schools that serve Whispering Woods are as attractive to buyers as the neighborhood itself. Park Springs Elementary received an A-minus from Niche and an 8 out of 10 from GreatSchools. Students there can choose from several special programs that promote positive self-image and intellectual growth, such civic engagement and STEM/computer science. Forest Glen Middle scored a B from Niche and offers the middle school version of the Cambridge Program, which helps students qualify for the Florida Bright Futures scholarship upon graduation from high school. Also scoring a B is Coral Springs High. Charter and private school options exist also, such as Imagine Charter and Middle School at Broward (K-8). From studio art and graphic design to law studies and robotics, students can choose from more than 20 subjects that pair with the school's special programs in the arts and sciences.
Whispering woods park
For a daytime excursion with family or friends, residents frequent Whispering Woods Park. Here, locals enjoy hiking the trails and eating under the picnic pavilions. There is also a red lichen sanctuary, which is a dense hammock of trees that bear red moss-like coloring on their trunks and branches. Horseback riding is a routine occurrence in Whispering Woods. Greenways along the canals and roadways allow riders to reach the Parkland Equestrian Center at Temple Park, a common destination. The center offers a large open space and two equestrian rings for horseback riding — the only park in the area that allows locals to bring their own horse. The center is also used by the Parkland Horseman’s Association for shows and events, and the open space is the site for the Parkland Farmers Market, which features fresh produce from November to April.
Convenient location
“In other horse communities, you have to drive 30 minutes to get anywhere,” Shwartz says. “Whispering Woods is perfect for horse lovers who want all the conveniences close at hand." There’s a Publix along Wiles Road, which is also home to several retailers and restaurants, such as La Union Mexican Bakery. This restaurant serves traditional Mexican food like quesadillas and tacos. Off University Drive, there is a Regal Magnolia Place cinema and a Target. 20 miles down the Sawgrass Expressway will take residents to the Sawgrass Mills Mall, the largest outlet and value retail center in the United States, with more than 350 stores.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
