Fejervary gets its name from a Hungarian nobleman
At first, it may not seem as though Iowa’s Mississippi River and the Danube River in Hungary have much in common, but to Count Nicholas Fejervary, they both felt like home. The Hungarian nobleman grew up near the Danube until his country’s revolutionary war drove him west in the 1850s. All the way west to Iowa, where he settled along the Mississippi, scenery of which connected with his homeland memories. He quickly made a fortune selling land in Davenport and lent his name to the community where he built his new American home, now overlooking the Mississippi. Fejervary's legacy of building affordable housing for retired area farmers is still a theme that runs through Fejervary like the river that drew originally him. “While there are big attractions here with Fejervary Park and being close to the river, the number one reason people buy here is because of the competitively priced older homes,” Jeff Dellitt, a Realtor with Ruhl & Ruhl Realtors, says.
Cottages, bungalows and Craftsman-style homes
Homes in Fejervary sit fairly close to each other, on gridded streets tying in the sense of community the neighborhood exhibits. “This is an older neighborhood in the heart of Davenport,” says Heather Khoury, member engagement coordinator for the Eldridge-North Scott Chamber of Commerce. “Residents enjoy its location close to the family aquatic center, and it's right along the RiverWay Trail that stretches from Davenport to Bettendorf.” Traditional Craftsman-style homes, bungalows and cottages sit on deep lots close to the curb with enough backyard space for outdoor entertaining. Large colonial duplexes can also be found in the area which are often subdivided as rental properties. Pricing in Fejervary is competitive compared to surrounding areas, with five-bedroom houses rarely exceeding the mid-$100,000s. Investors and first-time buyers wanting to tackle their own renovations can find 2,000-square-foot fixer-uppers from 1900 starting from around $20,000.
American Foursquares can sit next to mnimal traditional builds.
Homes in Fejervary range from small single-family craftsmen to large colonial duplexes.
Bungalows and Craftsman homes offer Fejervary residents a range of options to fit any budget.

Fejervary Park and Centennial Park are stars of the community
Although there are no city parks inside the boundaries of Fejervary, there are 10 within a 3-mile radius. Fejervary Park and Centennial Park lead the way with their sheer size and breadth of amenities. The land for Fejervary Park was gifted to the city by the count's daughter. The 75-acre property had been his estate, but it was demolished after his death in 1895. Today, the Fejervary Family Aquatic Center welcomes families to its sprayground, water slides, playground and shaded picnic areas. In winter, the park’s hills offer sledding. Young kids head to the Fejervary Learning Center, with nature-based activities presented through traditional nursery rhymes. Centennial Park’s 250 acres faces the Mississippi River and draws crowds to its BIX Jazz Festival, Quad City Marathon and the bi-state St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The RiverWay Trail follows the Mississippi River through not only Davenport, but into Bettendorf and Riverdale as well.
